I got the ACER x223w monitor on a good “cyber monday” deal. I had recently started working from home half time, and wanted some more screen space – all I had was a 15” samsung monitor to plug my 14” laptop into.
At work I have the 19 inch version of this monitor and it's been great with no problems, so I figured the 22 inch version would be to. I actually prefer the 19 inch version since it has the same native resolution (1680x1050) but since the 22 incher was actually cheaper, why not!
The buttons for changing settings aren't the most intuitive to use, but I was able to do everything I needed to without consulting the manual.
The stand doesn't feel or look as sturdy as some other monitors I've used, but it hasn't presented any problems. Also, the stand is not as adjustable as some more expensive monitors. It can tilt up and down, it is not height adjustable and does not swivel. Overall this is a good monitor and I feel I got a good deal on it.
I use this monitor mostly for my job as a software developer. I also use it for personal use sometimes and have viewed images and watched video on it. I haven't played any graphics intensive games on it.
The only issue I've had is some colors seem to display slightly off – light green and yellow colors seem to have a different tint compared to both my personal and work laptops displaying the same thing. I can't really notice it with images or video, but do notice it on websites where there is a block of certain colors. I'm not sure if this is just the color settings, but I wasn't able to easily adjust them to match the colors of my other displays, and it wasn't important enough to me to spend more time figuring it out.
Otherwise I've had no problems. No dead pixels. It emits no noise – a problem I've had with other monitors.
The brightness is good – it can go significantly brighter then my Dell Vostro laptop and its also even across the whole screen – not noticeably dimmer on the corners. The contrast and refresh rate are good for web browsing and video. The viewing range, both up and down and side to side is comparable to other recent LCD displays I've used.
It has VGA and DVI inputs but I've only used the VGA.
I had no problems setting up this monitor, just snap the stand into place then plug and play, I had it up and running in minutes.
Overall, I'm happy with the Acer x233w. Its one of the lowest priced 22 inchers, its not noticeably weaker then more expensive monitors and its worked great for the past 4 months.
