Jaynrand's Full Review: Acer X223WBD 22 inch Monitor
Back before many Epinionators were born, the movies went to widescreen and got the people back into theaters. It's time for another size revolution. This time its for those of us who were tired of straining to see our 15" CPU monitor screen (or those who want a bigger screen for a laptop).
As everyone knows, electronics purchases can be tricky. Prices fluctuate much like gasoline. And technology moves so quickly that what is top of the line today can be obsolete by the end of the week. And sometimes you feel like you have to be an expert to make a change in your system.
Well, I had a bit of extra money, and I wanted to spend it on something that I would use everyday. I have a 4-year-old Cisnet computer system (Nascar - it was on sale). The 15" screen that came with it has worked fine. But I wanted to make that step up to a widescreen monitor.
Visiting my local Wal-Mart was the place to start. They had a shelf full of monitors going so that I could see a picture and look at the wiring. I picked up a Dell 18.5" model that was priced at $98. As I walked down the line, I saw the Acer X223WBD 22" monitor. I argued with myself and finally decided that if I was going to go bigger, I might as well go BIGGER!
The Acer was priced at $168 and tax was about $11 or so.
This monitor is truly "out of the box." The instructions were easy to follow. It has the regular computer cord plus what must be some kind of VGA cord that I didn't use. There is also a CD of instructions and information. I hooked it up, plugged it in. Following instructions, I turned on the monitor and then the computer and there it was.
The picture is fine with smooth whites and bright colors. If you have been using the square screen, you might want to tweak your display ratios. I use 1280 x 768 and things look fine.
The screen sets solidly on a short inverted "v" stand. All of the buttons are in reach on the bottom front of the screen. A soft blue light glows when the computer is "on." The computer comes with a 3-year limited warranty on parts, labor, and backlight. So you don't need any one or two year extended warranty that your retailer may offer you. It is housed in a solid plastic black frame without a wide edge. It doesn't take up much more space than screen size.
What I can't speak to is the way this monitor works on computer games. I do not play any of the popular games, so you might check some other reviews that deal specifically with that use.
I can tell you that for web browsing, Excel or other accounting work, word processing, Contribute Web Site Editing, photo editing, and watching You Tube or downloaded movies - the Acer X223WBD is an excellent, economical choice.
