Pros: A lot of fun, teaches problem solving skills
I purchased the Barbie 12 Dancing Princesses PC game for my daughter who is six years old. She is very good with PC games, loves Barbie and loved the movie Barbie 12 Dancing Princesses. These were the reasons why I had chosen to make the purchase for my daughter. Besides that, I did get a very good deal on the Barbie 12 Dancing Princesses PC game when I purchased it.
Where I bought it and what I paid for it:
When I purchased the Barbie 12 Dancing Princesses PC game, I bought it in a store located here in Rhode Island where I live. The name of that store is Game Stop. They sell new and opened box buy games for all systems there. I saw the Barbie 12 Dancing Princesses PC game selling for only $6.00 as an open boxed buy. Which meant it was opened but never left the store. Half the plastic was torn off the front but the case had never even been opened so I got a really good deal. I just could not resist a PC game for that price.
To run the Barbie 12 Dancing Princesses PC game you will need to have 450MHz Pentium III processor,256MB RAM 32MB 3D video card W/direct X, 800MB Hard Disk space, 24X CD-ROM drive, 16-Bit color, 640X480 screen resolution, and a DirectX compatible sound card. You also need to be running Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000, or Windows XP. I have XP just to clarify.
How to install the game:
Just open up the CD. Pop it in to your CD rom and click the install button when the screen pops up asking you to. Now select full install or custom install. Custom lets you put the game where ever you choose for it to go. Full puts it on your C drive with a handy desk top icon for easier game access. I chose the full. Now wait approximately 2 minutes or less depending on your PC and the next screen will pop up. Click the finish tab here. Then you can register, register later, or never register your game using the next screen or skip the option and click play.
Sound and graphics:
The sound is fairly good. You don't hear a whole lot of sound effects because this is not that type of a computer game. It is a children's game. Most of what you will hear is Barbie and other characters talking, and a lot of music because this game is pretty much based on the dancing and music. The music can be adjusted by the volume menu under the game options. You can also adjust your video here to suit your needs as you like. The picture is very clear, the colors are very vibrant. This game is more of a 3d value than any of the other Barbie PC games that we have purchased so far. There are no skips in either the video or sound either.
What the game is all about:
This game is based on the movie in most ways, with a twist or two here and there. The 12 Dancing Princesses PC game is inspired by the tale of Princess Genevieve from the movie. She lives in castle with her father who is the king and her 11 sisters. This castle is always full of life, music, fun and of course dancing. That is until the King’s cousin Rowena comes to live with Princess Genevieve and the king and absolutely everything changes. When the Duchess Rowena moves in the dancing, music and fun stops right there on the spot. How will your child come in to play to help the castle come alive again?
How to play and the controls:
In the Barbie 12 Dancing Princesses PC game your child acts as Princess Genevieve, your child will quickly learn that to restore tha dancing, music and fun to the castle they will have to reunite two sisters and they will then rid the castle of Duchess Rowena. Your child will need to follow clues, learn to retrace steps in the game, and along the way they will be having fun with mini games with in the game. There are four min games to unlock. Also there are 16 levels to beat to complete the game. This is not a few level long game like prior Barbie PC games were.
There will be a throne room, golden pavilion, high towers, an attic, garden, secret stairways and more. Along the way your child will have to use gifts they are given from each of the sisters in order to defeat the level, find another helpful object or in the end beat the game. These could be a ladder, a key, a scarf and many more objects. Some times you can tell what they are for..other times you have to figure it out.
The princesses along with the player will discover a magical enchanted world and escape the tyranny of Rowena. But when Genevieve learns that their father's life is in danger, the sisters must come together to save both their father and the whole kingdom. I will not disclose the ending although I would love to. This is the best part. It would be like telling you the end of a movie. I know the game plot sounds very similar to the movie, however the ending is quite different.
Your child will need basic mouse skills in order to play the Barbie 12 Dancing Princesses PC game, they may also need to know the keyboard as there are options to use either.Plus they need to be able to type their name in in order to save the ga,e when done playing. The mouse skills are basic drag and drop, click and so on, the keyboard will act as your movement using the arrow keys. It is all very basic. Nothing hard at all really.
The Barbie 12 Dancing Princesses PC game is age recommended for children ages 5+ and is rated E for everyone. There is no real violence, no vulgarity or anything of that nature to worry about. This is Barbie we are talking about after all! My daughter is six and has no trouble at all playing the game what so ever.
The fun factor:
My daughter loved the Barbie 12 Dancing Princesses PC game from the day we installed it on the computer. She had beaten it three times in the past six months. It takes her a while each time. But mostly because she is limited on game allowance time by my rules. She can play any game or many games as long as it does not exceed 45 minutes per day. A little strict yes, but I prefer she keeps a good pretend play and learning schedule as well as her games for fun.
Emmily has played this game for many hours over the past six months. She enjoys the game a lot. In fact her friends have asked to come over just so they could join her in beating the next level when she first got the game. They were all very happy when that finally happened. She did get frustrated a few time not being able to figure out where a key was or a certain object to get her to the place she needed to be in. But she would get over it fast.
My thoughts and recommendation:
After all this time and three times beating the entire game, she is on her fourth time in to it. She has not gotten bored with it at all. I love the fact that it keeps her interested. It also gets her mind thinking about where to find things, what to do next and more. So I believe that this game could be very helpful with problem solving skills as well.
For the price that I had paid for the Barbie 12 Dancing Princesses PC game, the fun that my daughter gets from it and the fact that my daughter still likes the game after so much time. I would have to recommend buying the game, and trying it out. It is an enjoyable game. It could most likely be beaten a lot faster by some one who has more time to play it. And even though Emmily did get a little frustrated in the beginning it turned out great in the end. Again, I would certainly recommend the Barbie 12 Dancing Princesses PC game.
