masonicman's Full Review: Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 for Xbox
I must admit that my boys got me hooked on Tony Hawk for Xbox. I play in secret now. There are people who love the adrenaline high of doing extreme sports. I am just addicted to the virtual version.
This game is almost the same as the Play Station 2 version, but Playstation did not make me a closet player. I have to get really good to beat my kids. That is my major goal in life right now. The Xbox version has a hidden character, and a new level that Playstation does not. Other than that they are similar. Park Editor is another new feature that is a nice addition.
You can play in 3 different modes, and also multi-player.
There are also some new tricks, and new feats to be completed in career mode. Tony Hawk 3 is in my opinion, the best extreme sports game ever.
You can skate as Tony Hawk or 12 other professional skaters. Each skater has their own set of skateboard tricks, grinds, and grapple tricks. These are terms that I never figured I would ever know let alone use. Each skater also has 4 special tricks for extra points.
There is a 2 player mode with different games. You can play Trick Attack where you try to get the highest score within a time limit. There is also Free Skate, Graffiti where the winner is the player who has tagged the most objects, Horse, Slap!, and King of the Hill.
Create a Skater is exactly what it says. You give your skater a name, stance, weight, height, style, age, etc. You give them tricks. You also outfit your skater and detail his appearance. This is all easily done.
The Park Editor feature is really fun. You choose a small, medium, or large park. You can create up to 10 parks with pitfalls, things to grind on, seating, trees, ramps, and all kinds of other props. I enjoy creating the most extreme of the extreme.
Why should you get the Xbox version? First off, Xbox is just too cool. You can create girls to skate and there are more features in the Create a Park. There are also a new player, and new level only available on Xbox.
Great graphics and great detail are part of this game. The sounds the skaters and other people make are great. There are groans, grunts, and people yelling at you. The game has a decent sountrack, or you can download your own CD to play to.
Well that's what I think about Tony Hawk. Now I need to go practice before the kids get home from school.
