| BRmom's Full Review: Activity Table |
We picked up the Fisher Price Activity Table for our 11 month old son when he was about 9 1/2 months old and had learned to stand up on his own. We received ours for free through an incentive program but I have priced them at the local toy stores from between $25- $30 US dollars.
The table is a 2-in-1 activity center. It is made of good sturdy plastic that easily wipes clean and it stand about 2 feet tall. It does not come assembled but the assembly is extremely easy and doing so only took me less than 5 minutes. It was as simple as popping the legs onto the bottom of the table and opening the blocks package.
One the main side of the activity table there are the following activities:
A squeak button
4 roller balls each in a different color
2 little doors that flip back and forth
A non breakable mirror
Balls in a track that can be turned by a round crank
A drop hole to the block storage underneath
Spaces to stack or store your blocks
Flipping this side over reveals the base for building with the blocks that are included with your table. You receive 20 some blocks, some duals and some singular, all in primary colors. They are just the perfect size for young fingers to grab and handle.
Along the one side of the table reveals an additional block storage area. Blocks can also be stored in the storage space under the table top. It is very easy for little ones to reach in and retrieve their blocks from here.
The age range on this table was 9+ months and I found this to be very accurate. Even a young baby who cannot yet stand to play upright with the table could play with just the activity top removed and placed on a floor.
Now, my ONE complaint about this toy comes in the area of it's weight. No, it's not too heavy...it's too light. A baby who leans into the table to pushes on it hard enough will easily move it. As soon as I had it assembled and my son tired of playing with it he realized it was good for something else. He simply just started to walk around the room by pushing on it and using it to steady himself. Amusing, yes, but I would still have liked it to have been a bit heavier so that it would STAY IN ONE SPOT! Then he learned how to tip it over WHILE WALKING ( which also was not hard for him to do) and so we dealt with a few teary occasions. I think they could improve in this area.
Overall it has provided my son and I loads of fun while playing with it together and being that it is easily wiped up little grubby hands cannot hurt it. The toy store also sells the same blocks by Fisher Price seperately so you can even add to your block set if you want to have more than the supply that comes in this set.
I would recommend this table to anyone with a young child 9+ months or older for standing and playing, even younger for floor play, just be aware it is on the light side.
