| jcvsmom's Full Review: Activity Walker |
At nine months old, my daughter was trying to start walking. She would cruise around the living room, holding on to the furniture. And she would walk anywhere, as long as someone would hold her hands to help her along. I had the suspicion that she really could walk by herself, if she would only give it a try. A short time later, we went to visit my brother who happened to have a Fisher-Price Activity Walker. After showing my daughter how it worked, she grabbed on to that bright blue handle and she was off, laughing and giggling all the way. She had to have one of these toys for her very own. I found one on E-Toys and ordered it immediately. After it arrived (fully assembled), there was no stopping her. Around and around the coffee table she would go, (with someone to help her steer) then through the dining room and into the kitchen, laughing and laughing the whole time.
I have been mulling over and over in my mind how to describe the Activity Walker. Nothing I have come up with really make sense, so please look at the picture your screen as I am describing it. The Activity Walker has a white front. This is where all of the activity toys are located (more on those in a minute). The front is set on an angle, leaning back and is supported by two plastic support rods. These rods are attached to the base which has four wheels. At the top of the front there is a large blue handle. The handle is about 18" above the floor, the base is about 13" wide and 16" long. Now back to those activity toys. There is a metal rod with five multi-colored beads that can spin and slide back and forth. There is a rotary dial (like an old telephone dial) a small round mirror, and another rod with multi-colored flat spinners that also slide back and forth. Some of these toys are attached to a red plastic “trap door” that can be pulled out, and pivoted down to convert the toy into a doll stroller. So they say. It doesn’t look like much of a doll stroller to me.
The two plastic support rods that hold up the front can be unlatched (by an adult) and the whole toy can be folded down to about 6" high for travel and storage. There are two yellow straps, one on either side of the front, that secure the toy in its folded up position.
The Activity Walker is very sturdy and safe. My daughter did manage to pull the toy down on top of her a few times. But no damage was done. Lots of bumps and falls are to be expected when they are just learning to walk.
This was a wonderfully fun and useful toy for about two months. Once my daughter got up the courage to try unassisted walking, there was no more need for the toy. She has played with the activity toys a few times, but they don’t hold her attention for very long. As soon as this review is posted the Activity Walker will be put into storage until I have another baby that is ready for some assistance in taking those first few steps.
