| tom's Full Review: Adidas Samba Classic |
I'm not a soccer player, and I certainly don't know indoor soccer, but what I can tell you is that the Adidas Samba indoor soccer shoes are an excellent choice for comfy, affordable, casual shoes.
I've always had a hard time deciding what sort casual "tennis shoe" I should buy for everyday use. Should I get the running shoes that are light as air but wear out in a month? Or should I opt for the klunky basketball / cross trainers that are durable but heavy? It seems that the Samba provide an excellent compromise and are ideal as a second pair of "everyday" shoes for every use except blacktop sports:
------
Comfort: Couldn't ask for more. The shoes are made for athletics, so they are well-cushioned. I can walk all day in them. The low ankle cut also means that your foot is relatively "free" -- you're not in the same sort of restraining device that basketball shoes provide. If you string the laces very loosely, these can be a casual slip-on / slip-off pair of shoes. The shoes are a bit heavy, so if you like light shoes these are not the ones for you.
------
Athletics: You can move around in these shoes without a problem. They have light soles, so you can wear them indoors. Don't try to play basketball in them though -- no support.
------
Durability: I'm on my third pair, and I find that each pair lasts a solid 8 months. The only aspect of the shoes that wears is the sole -- typically I wear right through the rubber in both the heel and the ball of my foot. This means that water starts to leak in, so they shoes are only useful for indoors after that point. Also, after about 4 months, the cushioning of the shoes becomes compacted and a bit worn, making them a bit less comfortable. About the same time, the back end of the heel begins to break down if you slip the shoes on and off a lot without undoing the laces.
------
Overall, I recommend these shoes as a fantastic alternative to everyday tennis shoes. Note, however, that these shoes won't be the best primary pair for school kids who play on the playground at recess each day -- they will twist ankles and wear through the shoes in a few weeks. The Adidas Samba are best for a secondary, casual pair of shoes for older kids and adults.
