Apparently some running geek has taken the time to sit down and calculate how much time the average marathon runner would save per ounce of weight discarded. It works out to about 1 minute for every 2 ozs of gear that you lug with you. How they came to this figure I don't know, but what I do know is that when you strap on a pair of racing flats for the first time and hit the track you certainly feel a lot faster.
The Adidas Taper is technically a lightweight trainer and not a flat at all. They weigh in at a tad over 9 ozs for the men's shoe which is a little heavy for a flat but they have added stability and have plenty of cushioning for those of us who carry a little more beef than the standard Kenyan. Like most flats they have a super lightweight upper which you really notice when the wind starts blowing through them and your feet get cold! The sole has adiPRENE in the forefoot and heel which is Adidas' shock absorption material. The midsole is so light that you can stand on a quarter and tell if its heads or tails…you really can feel the road in these shoes.
My only complaint is that the laces are ridiculously short! I know they are trying to save weight but COME ON, we still have to lace these puppies up to go break those records.
All in all a great shoe for the high mileage runner who wants a shoe to race in and doesn't want to pay for new flats every 100 miles.
