I replaced an ailing top loader with this machine recently. I couldn't be happier.

Interestingly, the nameplate is Admiral, the dials resemble Maytag dials with the easy rubber grips, and the tub and inner workings are definitely Whirlpool.....down to the agitator and the sounds it makes. It all works well together.
This machine has a 3.2 cubic ft. porcelain finished spreckle tub. The agitator is of the dual action variety and cleans effectively on all the loads I've put through.
There are 4 water levels, small, medium, large, and super, along with 4 water temperatures (hot, warm, cool, cold....all with cold water rinses). Cool is a handy temperature to have; it adds just enough warm water to the tub to make sure that detergents dissolve correctly and are effective. Tap cold water doesn't always work well in colder parts of the country in either respect.
The water temperatures are a little different than older models. This model meets recent federal energy standards and has done so by lowering water temperatures. Hot is now about 110-115 degrees F, warm is now about 80-85F, cool is about 70F, and tap cold is whatever your water supply temperature is. Despite lower temperatures, the machine still cleans effectively. In spite of being a non-high efficiency machine, the spin still extracts a decent amount of water (not as much as front loaders), so drying time isn't bad either.
There are 3 basic cycles on this machine and 2 motor speeds. Normal wash is high speed agitation followed by a high speed spin, Permanent Press is high speed agitation followed by a low speed spin (to minimize wrinkes), and Gentle is different than most machines. On Gentle, the machine agitates at high for a few seconds, pauses for several seconds, then agitates again. It does that through the wash and rinse cycles. Spin on Gentle is again different....this machine spins at high speed instead of low. I haven't noticed any problems with delicate items...it seems to work effectively and gently.
Capacity is good on this machine. It will hold a family size load and still wash things clean....no need to overload it to hold a decent size load.
Noise level is about typical for a top loader. There are the typical clicks, clunks, and splashes associated with this type of machine. It's most noisy in its agitation phase and quietest in spin. While a little on the noisy side, it's not terribly obtrusive, at least to me.
There are few amenities on this machine. The only dispenser is for liquid chlorine bleach, so be prepared to add fabric softener at the rinse cycle (or use a downy ball) if you need it. No detergent dispenser either, but that works fine if you just add it to the bottom while the washer fills.
Fit and finish are quite good. The lid and cabinet are sturdily made, the porcelain tub is quite smooth, and the machine doesn't emit any unusual rattles or squeaks while operating. The knobs are easy to grip, are made of substantial materials, and the controls are logically laid out.
Overall, this machine is an excellent value. It performs as well as any top loading machine I've used, holds a nice sized load, and gets the job done quickly. My back was to the wall when my old machine died, and I figured I'd get something adequate, no more. My expectations were happily exceeded.
