What is Photoshop 7.0?

Is it really what you want?
To answer this question you must decide if you are a professional photo editor or a novice wanting to touch up your pictures. If you are a professional, then it is worth the $600 price tag. If you are not, then there are many other affordable photo editing packages out there that may saturate your needs. If you want to find a more affordable solution try Ulead's website. Or go to cnet.com and follow the links under software to photo editing software. However, make sure you get a program that allows you to same images as jpg files. You can always use .jpg files on almost all programs. Adobe Photo Deluxe did not allow this and saves images a .apd files or something like that. What? They are only recognized by Photo Deluxe! That's not good.
The inexperienced photo editor:
There are some wonderful options on Photoshop that are unavailable on most applications, but they may be over kill for the average photo editor. Half of the options on Photoshop you will never use. To just be able to take a 700k jpg. file and convert it to a 60k jpg. file for ease of emailing is quite a task. It should have a simple procedure for this but I haven't found it yet and I have had the program for two months. Sometimes simplicity is what you need. You wouldn't get George Lucas to film your wedding. You wouldn't get Tiger Woods to teach your kid golf. You wouldn't get Emril to show you how to broil salmon. Why do you need the best photo editing program to edit your photos?
I have read most of the other epinions on this product and they are all positive for a very good reason. Because Photoshop 7.0 is probably the best product out there for photo editing. But my opinion is to take care in reasoning your decision to dish out $600 for software that may be beyond your time and capabilities.
Has Photoshop 7.0 improved from the previous versions? Yes.
Of course. Why would they make it. The web editing capabilities are much improved.
Is it easy to use? Hell no! I have experience editing photos with other programs and this is not easy to use unless you have a lot of experience. I like to learn by clicking around. Photoshop doesn't allow very much room for mistakes. If you click something just to see what it is, you may not be able to return. Then you must close the application without saving and start over. You can undo mistakes, but you cannot undo things when windows pop up and you do not know how to get back.
This critique is general because I am a general type of guy. It may be a good buy for some, but it is not a good buy for me. I do not have time to sit at my computer for hours and hours or take a class to learn this software. However, now that I have purchased it, I will be forced to learn or feel that I have wasted my money.
I am sure some people will give high grades to things they do not understand simply because the majority likes the product. I will not. I do not care for it because of the time and effort needed and the complexity of its interfaces.
