My girlfriend had picked up this costume for Halloween last year at a local costume shop. She is an avid Street Fighter II fan and loves Chun-Li and wanted a chance to express her inner video game nerd at a costume party we were invited to. From the packaging it looked like a pretty nice costume and it was only $40. She had been looking online and there were some higher priced custom ones that she was interested in, but they all took 2-3 weeks to make and ship and she didn't want to wait.
The costume comes with a polyester blue "quiapo" style dress with gold accents, a separate blue collar with gold accents, two rubber spiked wrist bracelets, two white bun covers and a white "obi" or waist sash. The dress is a bottomless slip on that features a solid waist band and then velcro closures up the back. The separate collar also features velcro closures and completes the overall look of the costume.
My g/f bought the small because she is pretty tiny, 5'-5" and only about 115 lbs. The sizing on the costume describes it as a one size fits all deal which did not end up working out so well. Despite it being a small it was too tight in the waist, yet really loose in the bust and shoulders. A lot of the seams were very flimsy. The slits at the bottom of the dress are also cut very high and the front slit does not leave much to the imagination as to what is under your costume. Originally my g/f was going to go with just some spandex athletic shorts because the weather was fairly warm in GA and she was appaled that the package picture featured fishnet stockings. She didn't want to look like "Street Hooker II" as she aptly described it. Even with the athletic shorts the costume still revealed too much leg for her so she ended up having to go with a pair of black tights underneath.
Surprisingly the separate collar design worked out pretty well and it matched up to the rest of the dress very accurately. The only problem she had with it was the top velcro closure kept coming undone if she moved her neck to far one way or the other. The top of the dress is fairly accurate to Chun-Li but that is where the similarities end. There isn't any gold lining on the bottom of the dress like her character in the video game. This drove my g/f nuts to the point where she had to bust out the sewing machine and actually add some gold applique to the bottom slits of the dress. She also made some alterations to the fit.
The white sash/obi that you tie around your waist might as well be a pillow case, it is pretty flimsy and made with cheap polyester fabric. However she also played with this by adding some sequins to make the dragon design from Chun-Li's obi is Street Fighter II so it looked pretty good by the time she was done with it. Overall the whole thing looked pretty decent and the only real issues she had while we were out was some of the seams came undone a bit because they are very flimsy and the back closures would pop open occasionally while dancing or moving around quickly.
She loved the bracelets, which are rubber with velcro closures and the bun covers which were actually well made despite their flimsy appearance. The only problem with the bracelets was that the velcro tended to pop off because they were really tight even on her small wrists.
In the end she said she probably would have been better off sending in her measurements for one of the custom jobs, but by the time she got done with this costume it wasn't too bad. It just seemed to be a lot of work for a "store bought" costume. She said the polyester was comfortable and kept her pretty warm despite only wearing a sports bra underneath and the collar fit snuggly but not too tight. I think she was pretty pleased with herself by the time she was done making alterations.
