| chefklb's Full Review: Advantage Rent-A-Car |
I recently rented from Advantage in Las Vegas. I made an online reservation for $69.00. My boyfriend and I waited in a very short line for almost an hour. My boyfriend was to be the primary driver. Advantage would not take his credit card. I asked if I could use mine. The agent first said no because I would not be driving then changed her mind quickly and said "let me try it." I told her we did not want insurance because my boyfriend had his own insurance. We did opt for the full tank of gas because we did not want to try and bring the car back on empty. The agent printed the bill and had me initial it. When I got to the bottom of the receipt I saw that the total was $152.47. I asked why the price jumped from $69 to $152. The agent told me it was because of the price of the gas and Nevada state taxes with no other explanation. We did not want to argue because we were anxious to start our short vacation. I later learned that all of the abbreviations on the receipt were for insurance that we said we did not want. I feel like I was scammed because I received very little explanation of the bill.
The second part of this story is the car. We were told to go pick the car up in the garage. We stopped at the Advantage desk in the garage and were given keys and told that the car was in slot A-14. The car was a red Ford Focus sedan. It had a few scratches which I thought were normal wear and tear. We figured the car had been looked over. The car was a total clunker. It did not brake well and when we turned corners the tires screeched and it rattled on the freeway. Definately not worth $152 for 3 days. That evening we were driving on the strip and heard a loud clanking sound. We valet parked at a hotel and the valet attendant asked what happened to the tire. Apparently half of the rear drivers side hubcap had fallen off! We figured since it seemed to be a maintenance issue we would be able to explain what happened with out any hassle. WRONG!
When we returned the car, the attendant asked for the pink slip that had any damages or scratches noted on it that was supposed to have been done before we left with the car. I told her that no one had gone over the car with us and that we didn't have a pink slip. My boyfriend and I were starting to get a little bit mad at this point. The agent said she would have to call a manager. I said to please call the manager because I had some things to discuss with him anyways. Meanwhile another agent came by and accused us of hitting something and that was why the hubcap fell off. I yelled at her and told her we did nothing of the kind and it's not our problem that Advantage doesn't maintain their cars. The manager never came down and we were running out of time. I told them we had a plane to catch and that they needed to hurry the process. My boyfriend had to fill out and accident report and then told us we were being charged $40.00 for the hubcap. I told them I had their insurance that I did not want by the way and that should cover it. I was told that the insurance did not cover the hubcap!! I was dumbfounded. They asked for my credit card and I told them I wasn't giving it to them and that if they wanted it bad enough they could find it on the computer which they did. We stormed out of the office and will never return. Many letters will be written to the Advantage headquarters. (I did get the money back for the hubcap).
