The Advent AW770 900MHz Wireless Headphones are Great!
Written: Oct 04 '02 (Updated Feb 01 '03)
Pros:Great sound with included NiCad rechargeable batteries.
Cons:The 300 feet range seems a little far!
The Bottom Line: For a wireless headphone set it produces a great sound!
The Advent AW770 wireless headphones give you an operating range of 300 feet from the transmitter. Now you can listen from your TV, CD player, Radio and more from about 300 feet away without any wires.
The Advent AW770
The head phones consist of a wireless headphone and a transmitter. They come with 3 AAA NiCad batteries that can be recharged by plugging the headphones to the transmitter with a supplied wire. The batteries are rated to give you about 10 hours of use before recharging.
The transmitter is about 5 inches in a round type diameter. You plug the transmitter into an AC outlet and then connect it to the source of what you wish to hear. There is an antenna that can be flipped up for better reception between the transmitter and the headphone. There are two tuning wheels on the transmitter, one for the master volume and the other is for tuning with the headphones.
The headphones also have two tuning wheels one for volume and the other for tuning in with the transmitter. There is also an on and off switch in the headphones, plus a red LED light on each ear piece when light up showing you it is in stereo and working.

My Tests
At first I thought I was going to have to take them back till I tuned the headphones and the transmitter correctly in with each other. Once tuned in (Very easy if you will read the instructions first which I didnt.) they produce a great clear stereo sound that impressed me very much.
Turning the volume at over ¾ volume gives you a distorted sound, I tried tuning in with the transmitter again but it didnt change. For me ¼ to ½ volume was plenty of volume.
Taking a walk around the yard did produce some various results. The transmitter was inside on my portable stereo unit tuned into my favorite FM station. Walking all around the house produced no sound loss at all. Getting about 200 feet from the house started some distortion and it cleared up if I turned my head the right way. About 250 feet from the house and the distortion got so bad that I had to move closer to the house.
Now taking my portable stereo unit outside with the transmitter at 250 feet away the distortion was barely noticeable. At about 275 feet away I had to start turning my head for the proper sound and at 300 feet away it was sounding pretty bad.
Now mowing the grass with the head phones on worked pretty good tough I had to turn the volume up to about ¾ right before it gets that distorted sound to be able to hear my music while moving the lawn.
Overall the batteries lasted me about 9 & ½ hours before I needed to recharge them and it took about 4 hours to fully charge them.
Overall
The headphones are very comfortable and cover over the entire ears. The Advent AW770 wireless headphones are easy to use and understand if you read the instructions first.
The sound quality is great if you leave the volume under ¾ and stay within a distance of about 200 feet from the transmitter.
The Advent AW770 wireless headphones list for about $99.
