| candylee's Full Review: Advil Migraine |
This is actually a review of the new OTC migraine products in general, because I think there is something you should know: they aren't new at all. There was even a small article about in the November Consumer Reports.
Advil, Excedrin and Motrin have all come out with new products aimed at migraine sufferers. These products all contain the exact same ingredients in the exact same amount as their regular or extra strength formulas. They just repackaged the same old formulas and added a new label and different instructions due to a requirement from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
The law is that if they make claims about easing migraine pain, then they have to provide different information about symptoms and dosage...but they don't have to change the formula!
Don't be fooled by the new claims. Ibuprofen (Motrin & Advil) rarely helps migraine sufferers. Excedrin is the best choice due to its combination of acetaminophen (same ingredient as Tylenol) and caffeine.
I wrote a detailed review of Excedrin Migraine that includes other information about migraines and medication as well. I've dealt with these things for years, and although I'm glad they are finally being researched and taken seriously, I think migraine sufferers are also being exploited as a new OTC consumer.
