Pros: inflates/deflates quickly; comfortable; adjustable firmness levels; uses standard sheets; requires little space for storage
Cons: not so easy to get back in the bag; price
The Bottom Line: I recommend Aerobed for company or travel. Over all it's a fairly comfortable bed that's simple to set up plus it takes up very little room when not in use.

| mismamac's Full Review: Aero Raised Aerobed (Twin, Full, Queen) |
We only have company a few times out of the year so having a complete guest bedroom to heat and cool seemed to us a waste of space. I got the bright idea one day that I needed a place to do my once-in-a-blue-moon crafts/scrapbooking and our daughter needed a toy room (ah much better use of un-utilized space). Plus should baby number 2 ever join our family then he/she would need a room of their own as well. So out went our old guest bed. But then there was the dilemma of where to put our rarely visiting guest(s).
My very dear and close friend talked highly about the Aerobed they owned. She said they used their bed for company and for travel. I really value her opinion so I figured I'd check into purchasing one of these beds for my household. I just didn't realize how much they cost - whoo - sticker shock hit and I wasn't sure I wanted to spend upward of $200.00 - $300.00 + for an air mattress that would be used a couple of times a year.
I knew I wanted an Aerobed and I had visited the Aerobed website many times. I didn't want to spend a lot of money on a knock-off (although they may be just as good) so I shopped around and found our Raised Aerobed in a Queen size on Smartbargains.com for (what I can recall) about $130.00. That was a huge savings for me!! Ours didn't come with the dust ruffle, but quite frankly I didn't and still don't care if I have a bed skirt around our temporary bed.
What is an Aerobed?
For those who may not know, an Aerobed is a brand name inflatable air bed. It comes with a powerful little pump that inflates the bed in mere minutes. The bed has a patented air release valve which deflates the bed in under a minute. Also, the bed has a one touch button which controls the firmness of the bed so you or your guest(s) can quickly and easily select his/her comfort level. Now, that sort of sums it up but read on if you want more specifics.
Why the Raised Bed for Us?
The raised Aerobed is more than twice the height of the traditional Aerobed. In other words it is about the height of a standard/traditional bed (minus the height of the bed frame) again, see the specifics below for the measurements.
Since we were purchasing our Aerobed for company we wanted them to feel as much at home as possible and not like they were on some kind of camping trip. We felt like the raised height would at least give them a sense of being on a traditional bed rather than being stuck on a basic air mattress on the floor. Plus I was aware that my aging mother would have a very difficult time getting up from a lower bed/mattress and the raised Aerobed would be much more ideal for her.
Ease of Use
It doesn't get much easier than removing the Aerobed from its handy carrying bag and unrolling it onto the floor. The pump attaches to the head of the bed, you plug it into an outlet and press the button and within a couple of minutes you've got a bed. Presto! Instant Bed! My biggest complaint of all is actually getting the thing back into the storage/tote bag. That's the hardest part. Even after all the air is out (which it really does deflate in less than a minutes) I have to press and fold and roll and shove until it's in that bag. But after it is tucked into the tote it fits nicely into the bottom of my linen closet.
About the Aerobed, Specs and Features
1. The raised Aerobed is made of puncture-resistant, 18 gauge, heavy-duty poly-vinyl chloride (PVC). The material is non-allergenic and non-stainable, and is electronically welded at the seams for superior strength and durability.
2. The powerful external attached pump inflates the AeroBed in under three minutes.
3. A Patented Quick Air Release Valve deflates bed in under a minute.
4. Roll up your bed around the pump and store it easily in its own convenient carry bag.
5. Stability Bars on each side for added support.
6. Exclusive One Touch Comfort Control creates ideal firmness
7. Fits standard size sheets
8. Plush, velvety surface for enhanced comfort
9. Aerobed offers a One-year limited express warranty but on this particular bed.
10. Also, the built-in pump is a UL listed 110-volt pump, 60 Hz, 1.7 Ampere, with a standard U.S. two prong plug and 14ft cord. But according to Aerobed different plugs and voltages are available if you check their European Retail locations.
Here are the Dimensions for the Raised Aerobed in all sizes:
Twin 74"L X 39"W X 9"H holds 650 lbs
Full 74"L X 54"W X 9"H holds 650 lbs
Queen 78"L X 60"W X 9"H holds 750 lbs
Cleaning and Maintenance
To clean your Aerobed just use soap and water or a mild household cleaner. Make sure it is completely dry before you store it away.
Obviously this is an air mattress so keeping sharp object away...you know..kitty claws or similar would be a great idea. A repair kit is included with each bed but after all you will not be able to repair a large rip, tear or snag in your bed and those incidentals are not covered under the Aerobed warranty (how nice of them, right?).
Oh yes, Aerobed does not recommend using this bed as a trampoline (sorry, I had to add this, it sort of makes me laugh) or toy. Of course as soon as we set ours up for the first time our little girl had the bright idea that it was to be used as one of those fun blow up moon-bounce inflatable things that you see at kids parties. We quickly instructed and directed her in a another direction. I could see the fun in it though.
For the Most Part
As I previously mentioned, we purchased this queen size Aerobed to be used only on the rare occasion of when we have company or when we travel and need an extra bed (although I'm considering purchasing a full or twin Aerobed for travel).
Other than the occasional squeak (hey, it's made of plastic), it sleeps nicely. Much better than a sofa-sleeper my in-laws put us on once before. Even my mother said she rested comfortably on it - and coming from her (no offense Ma) was a compliment.
So other than the bed being a pain to get back into the storage bag once its deflated, I give it 4 stars. I think there's room for improvement of course. But over all it's a good bed for company, especially if you don't have the space for a guest room. It's also the perfect bed to have for those trips to visit family so you're not stuck in the basement on that 1970's sleeper sofa. I still have issues thinking about that...LOL.
