| BryRrose's Full Review: Aero Raised Aerobed (Twin, Full, Queen) |
I had a relative call the other day asking to stay the night. I said sure without thinking that I did not have a comfortable place for him to sleep. That is when I remembered that my neighbor had one of those inflatable beds. I called my neighbor up and she graciously let me borrow her Imaginair AeroBed. She has two of them, a twin and a full size. She let me use the full size bed.
When I went to pick the bed up, she handed me a box. I could not believe that a full size inflatable bed was inside this 2 foot by 1 foot (Approx.) cardboard box. I opened the box and inside was the bed nicely packed in a duffel bag. I started to sweat, hoping that when I was finished using it I would be able to fit it back inside the box just as she had given it to me. Incredibly, when I was finished, I was able to re-fit the bed back inside....just how she had given it to me.
CONTENTS
•Mattress with attached inflator motor - At one end of the mattress is a little motor that is used to inflate the mattress. The inflator is about twelve inches by four inches in diameter. It is a hard round plastic type unit at the end of the mattress. The inflator has an electrical cord that is connected to it and can be plugged into a nearby electrical outlet. Also attached to the unit is a One-Touch Comfort control. This enables you to add or decrease the amount of air that is released into the bed.
•Mattress pad - The mattress pad is blue/gray in color and it has "aero" written all over it. It is lightly quilted and is easily removed for washing.
•Duffel Bag - Also included is a small duffel bag for storing and protecting the mattress when it is not in use. I personally like the idea that my neighbor has put the mattress inside the duffel bag and then back into the cardboard box, it gives it extra protection from damage.
•Instruction Manual - The Instruction Manual is easy to understand and is written in five different languages: English, Spanish, French, Dutch and Italian.
•Patch Kit - In case of a small hole, they have included a repair kit, with a small patch and some repair glue.
INFLATING THE MATTRESS
This is supposed to be easy, right? Well it was. I plugged the inflator into the electrical outlet and did as the instruction manual said, "Push and hold the button of the One-Touch comfort control". In a matter of seconds I had a bed, they say sixty (60) seconds is all that is required to inflate the mattress. I didn't actually count, but I know that it was really fast.
The problem that I incurred was....I forgot to check the other end of the mattress to make sure that the air plug was closed. So I would inflate the mattress, stop and then the air would start to disappear. It took me about 3 minutes to figure out what I was doing wrong. After I fixed the problem, closing the air plug, I inflated the mattress. It was now ready for my guest.
SLEEPING COMFORT
If this can be determined by the fact that my guest over stayed his welcome, then yes the bed is very comfortable. But one should not buy an airbed based on the fact that my guest stayed too long. During the days that I had my house guest, he did not complain once about the bed being uncomfortable. He did have one complaint: It was easy getting down, but difficult getting out of the bed. I attribute that to the fact that my guest is a little older and his body works differently than mine.
I have to admit, I was curious. Was the bed comfortable? I decided to extend my neighbor generosity and sleep on the mattress myself. I managed to sleep on the bed most of the night, but I missed the warm of my husband and ended up going back to my bed.
First reactions to the airbed:
1. The plastic made squeaking noise when I laid down on the mattress and when I moved around. I don't believe that this is something that can be helped since it is an airbed and it is made out of vinyl.
2. I felt like the mattress was forming around me. When I first blew the mattress up, I laid down on it and it seemed too hard. I let some of the air out of the bed with the One-Touch comfort control, and it was perfect.
Deflating the bed was a breeze. You simply unplug the air plug and the air is released. The bed was deflated in less that one minute. As for whether I got the mattress back into the duffel bag and the box...yes, I did. After two tries I was able to fit the mattress back the way my neighbor had loaned it to me.
CARE AND MAINTENANCE
The company recommends that you store the bed in a clean dry space. It is very important to keep the bed away from sharp objects as it is made out of vinyl and can puncture.
As I said above, my neighbor keeps hers inside the included duffel bag and in the box the bed originally came in. I think this is a great idea and I highly recommend doing this.
Cleaning the bed is easy too. The mattress pad is removable and can be washed in the washing machine. If you get stains on the mattress you need to take a damp cloth and dab the stain out. If you have a bad stain, the company recommends a clear liquid dish detergent without dye.
WARRANTY
The mattress and motor are warranted against defects in material and workmanship for one year.
Should you have any questions or comments you can call 1-888-462-4468 or visit their website at www.imaginairinc.com.
Please note that did not purchase this product myself, so I do not know the exact price of the airbed. I have looked online and they are around $180.00
FINAL THOUGHTS
If I needed a temporary solution for sleeping arrangements for overnight guest, I would definitely recommend the Imaginair Aerobed. My neighbor has had hers for about a year and has used it numerous times. It a quick solution to sleeping on the hard floor. The inflation and deflation of the mattress is extremely fast and takes up no extra time.
If you do not have the room for an extra bed or hide away bed couch, this is the perfect solution. When you do not have guest it can be easily stored in a closet or someplace out of the way.
