Another “old wives tale” come true!
Or…what to use if you faint and/or get a mosquito bite!

After Bite is a wonderful product for children and adults, as well. This product really works to take away the itch and discomfort caused by insect bites. Since the only ingredient listed is ammonia, it proves my mother’s old “wives tale” that ammonia (when I was young, right from the bottle) would take the sting out of the bite or the itch, out of any itch producing condition. Please remember that this is a product that must only be used externally! So if you have a scratchy throat or tickle in your tummy…DON’T USE IT!

The amazing thing is that by carrying this smart packaged product, you can also use it to revive someone that faints. A quick whiff of ammonia or smelling salts (if you have them) will help to revive someone. This side use of the product is not on the label, but the smell of ammonia is terribly strong.

Last night was a great example of when to use this product. We went to the Fourth of July fireworks and my son received several mosquito bites. I told him not to scratch the itch until I could apply the After Bite. One he itched, and one he didn’t. The After Bite worked on both bites. One swish of the applicator contents and the itching stopped. However, the one that he’d scratched burned upon contact with the After Bite. Since he is older, it wasn’t exceptionally painful but the size of the stinging sensation for a little one might cause tears. It will, however, stop the itch! It has kind of a numbing affect.

The After Bite did not stop one of the bites (on his knuckle) from swelling at the joint the next day, though. I should have had my trusty Ace Cold Compresses along, which might have helped. This is a straightforward product that provides marvelous results. The After Bite comes in a wand-type applicator that is about 5 inches long. It is a tube that you remove the top from and a hard plastic top with a hole in the middle is visible. Rub the top over the bite and within seconds the itching is relieved. The first minute, after application, you will notice a strong, pungent eye-watering odor but within a minute after you rub it on, the smell disappears. When I first smelled it, I thought that it would stay because it’s so strong. But, one minute later I could smell no odor at all and it leaves no trace of application. It evaporates on contact. I also tested to see if there is any residue taste (because people often get bitten on the hands) but there is no trace of a taste immediately following its evaporation.

Another great feature about this product is that there is a metal ring that encircles the applicator that has a hook on it. This enables you to clip it to your pocket, like a ballpoint pen and it stays attached and with you for easy access and instant application.

While I’m sure that you can purchase ammonia a lot cheaper than this product, the convenience and safety of having it in the applicator makes it a good buy at $2.99. (If you ever do purchase a bottle of ammonia instead, to keep on hand for bites and itchiness, keep it in a safe place away from children. Ammonia taken internally can be dangerous and life-threatening. It is also awkward and easy to spill.)

If you have not yet tried this product, I highly recommend that you put it on your grocery or drugstore list and purchase one. In fact, I keep one in my purse, one in the car, and one in my safety kit at home.
