| jetplane19's Full Review: Aiptek Mini PenCam 1.3 Digital Camera |
I made my purchase the day this went on the market for $99 at Bestbuy.com. When I opened the box, I was disappointed by the cheap plastic..."$100 for this??" After 2 hours I was hooked. I can get 200+ low-res (e-mail quality) images on fresh batteries. Photo quality is NOT bad...and the mega does cool things when under G-forces: I took it on a roller coaster and the 10 shots I took were a bit distorted...producing a cool effect. It really likes blue skies. There is no flash, but don't think indoor shots are a waste of time. It works fine in well lit rooms and produces funky effects with things such as pool-table-lights and pinball machines.
The software may appear a bit cheezy, but is straight forward and easy to use. I've also used the U-Lead thumbnail viewer, but no other programs it comes with.
Twice I've dropped my cam from 6' onto a hardwood floor and it still works perfectly. The video clips it makes are not bad at all. While I'll never separate from mine, I wouldn't recommend it as a first dig camera. I bought my parents a larger Pretec 530 for $80...with flash, typical USB port and an NTSC output to a T.V.
