Not your fault that I need a globe to know where these places are:) My kids tease me that I must have slept through everything but English and Sociology in high school! jo

Thanks for the comments.
Haven't seen the article, but I keep my eyes shut when I use the towel! And mostly wipe my hands (particularly after the airports and buses!)

Flying Air Astana this week (Reply to this comment)
by chris_n17
I am flying from LHR this week (Tuesday) to Almaty with Ait Astana - and am looking forward to it! Anything has to be better than going via Istanbul and the flying cattle trucks run by that particular airline!
My better-half (who lives in KZ) suggested that I try Air Astana as they have recently started operations in the UK. The ticket sales people where very helpful and co-operative and the cost was just over £100 cheaper than ANY of the other airlines flying into ALA, and it's a direct 9 hour flight which leaves at a civilised time from LHR (1900) and arrives in ALA when the sun is up (1010 KX time) which was even more appealing!
I will post a full review of the flight when I return in a couple of weeks time to the UK - however it all looks very promising!
On a side note - there is a change in the visa requirements for KZ coming into force end Feb 2004. For a tourist visa, if you come from EU and a number of other countries, including NZ, you will NO LONGER require a letter of invitation (and anyone who has been to KZ knows that this is a protracted task in arranging - even if someone is doing it there for you). However, there is still the single entry rule. I hope that this will be reviewed in the near future!
