Heather, this was really interesting. I wasn't sure whn I saw the title, but the book actually sounds sort of intriguing, and your review of it was excellent.

No, no wait, that isn't it... It's BLOO!

Thank you! I wouldn't have expected myself to end up reading books like this. It's kind of a weird trail from watching the TV show "Stargate SG-1", to playing the roleplaying game based on the show, which is heavily based on the military--in particular, the Air Force. Hence, my new reading list. :) Technically I read this back in May, but I still refer to it often because of that game. I find it very useful as a reference book, as well as a nifty read.

My dad was career AF (26 years--retired when I was in High School) so this might be an interesting read for me. I honestly didn't realize until later how different my childhood was compared to some of my friends. It's true that the military is not just a job, but a way of life.

I think most people who aren't in the military have no idea what it's really like. After all, how many of us grew up in the 80's era when it seemed like all TV/movie depictions of the military painted its people as thugs and goons in their entirety (and usually psychotic thugs and goons at that)? Now we have shows like Stargate SG-1--whose lead actor is getting an award from the Air Force Association, I understand, for the show's positive portrayal of the AF. Heck, I'd be foolish to think reading a few books really gave me a realistic idea--but I prefer having some idea to no idea.
