Pros: Strong, good price, flies fast and far
Cons: Not practical for those without a large field nearby
If you want a fun toy that the whole family can get into, this is it. We bought it for my eight-year-old son for Christmas because my husband thought it was cool. What male wouldn't want a plane that can fly over 100 yards with just pumps of air?
We bought is online at etoys.com for $28 and it came to the house missing the tail wing. I quickly e-mailed the company, Spin Master Toys, and got a tail wing shipped out in under two weeks. It didn't matter because we weren't planning on flying it till spring anyway.
Spring arrived, so my son sneakely put together his V-Wing Avenger before we even got out of bed, one Saturday morning. The sticker decals were put in the right place and he managed to put it all together without help. Tha black plane is made of sturdy, thick styrofoam for the wings and tail and plastic for the propellers, air tank and part of the body.
We took the plane out to my husbands parents who live out in the country on 10 acres. Definately take this far away from civilization and trees. My son had a little difficulty at first with pumping, it takes strength. But, now he can pump up the plane without a problem. The little air pressure gauge tells when you have pumped enough. The air goes right to a little engine to make it fly.
Everyone was so excited seeing the propeller whirl and watching the Air Hog fly...and then crash. My husband had to fiddle with the wings and tail so the wind hit them just right. And when it did, wow! I was astonished at how far it went, right into a corn field at a neighboring farm. The kids were not used to so much power in a toy. IT went just like those expensive remote control planes- fast and far.
The whole family spent the day oohing and aahing at the dives and twirls the Avenger did. Even Grandpa came out to play. It took a few dives and crashes but came away with just slight styrofoam nicks. Good enough to last many more days at Grandma and Grandpa's.
