knotheadusc's Full Review: Air Wick Aerosols: Lavender & Chamomile
Recently, I found myself in the market for a can of air freshener, mainly because my poor dog Flea is nearing the end of his life due to cancer and is suffering a lot of bladder infections. I don't generally buy air fresheners on a regular basis because they tend to be too strong and overpowering. However, Flea's condition, as well as the fact that our home is a little musty due to a lack of housekeeping by the former tenants, made me pause in the detergent aisle of our local Publix in search of something that would cover up unpleasant household smells, yet not make me want to throw up.
I was about to pick up a can of Glade when I noticed the 8 ounce lavender can of Air Wick Aerosols: Lavender & Chamomile sitting on the bottom shelf. I also couldn't help but notice the price... just 99 cents. Apparently, it was on sale. I like certain lavender scents as long as they aren't too cloying, so I test sprayed the air freshener in the store. It passed my olfactory test and I brought it home.
What this spray claims to do...
Air Wick Aerosols: Lavender & Chamomile claims to eliminate odors and freshen the air. I'm not sure how using an aerosol can actually "freshen" the air, so I'm not sure Air Wick is really being truthful in its advertising. However, when I use this spray, I do notice that the air smells better than it did before I used it.
Instructions
Shake well before each use Hold can upright and press button Spray towards the center of the room You may want to open a window as well
I followed these instructions and was immediately rewarded by a lovely, light scent of lavender. I'm not really sure what chamomile smells like, but I'm guessing it sort of tempers the strength of the lavender scent and makes it slightly sweeter than it might otherwise be.
I have also used this spray on my bed and couches, both places where Flea tends to hang out. It works well and doesn't seem to stain or otherwise affect the upholstery or bedding, other than to make it smell less offensive.
Warnings
Naturally, this product should be kept out of reach of children. Do not spray this product near your face. Avoid contact with eyes and skin. Do not heat the container; it may explode. Do not puncture or incinerate the container or store at temperatures over 120 degrees. And folks, while it may be fun and games to try to huff this air freshener, the manufacturers strongly advise against it. Inhaling the contents may be harmful or fatal.
What I like about this product
I like the fact that this air freshener smells great and doesn't have a deleterious effect on my furniture. I like the fact that this product is inexpensive and effective, which is becoming a rare trait in a lot of goods these days. I also like the fact that the instructions and label are presented in English and Spanish. The fragrance lasts a good twenty minutes... or maybe that's just when my nose shuts off.
What I don't like about this product
Like a lot of other household chemicals, Air Wick Aerosols: Lavender & Chamomile is potentially harmful to those who misuse it or happen to be in the vicinty of someone who is misusing it. Care must be taken when using this air freshener near children or pets and parents must be vigilant about teenagers who might try to get a thrill by inhaling it. There's also no list of ingredients on the can, so those who have allergies or concerns about certain chemicals will probably have to do some research before the use it.
Overall
I still like this air freshener because it's effective, cheap, and smells divine. I don't have kids, so I don't have to worry as much about accidental ingestion or poisoning. I would recommend it to anyone who needs to temporarily blast a bad smell out of a room.
