| jeavinl's Full Review: Airborne Effervescent Health Formula Dietary Suppl... |
The idea behind Airborne is to drop one tablet into a small glass of water, let it fizz and dissolve, and drink up the vitamin/herbal supplement every three hours as necessary. Thats a LOT of Vitamin C. Each 5 calorie tablet contains 1000 mg of Vitamin C, 8 mg of zinc (has been shown to relieve colds), and 350 mg of a blend of herbal extracts that include ginger and Echinacea (another supplement I often take when Im starting to feel sick). Theres some other stuff thrown in, but those are the effective things. Generally, when Im sick, Ill take about 3000 mg of Vitamin C for a day or two and then drop down to 1000 mg for a few more days. Before reading the box of these tablets, I wouldnt have imagined taking more than that in a day. I still dont think its a good idea, especially since there are some vitamins in it that you shouldnt megadose on (A and E).
The taste is good. My husband and I like the Orange Zest best but weve also tried Lemon-Lime and Grapefruit. Its got a little bit of a fake sugar sweetness to it (it contains sorbitol and sucralose), but its not bad and goes down easily. It even seems to settle our stomachs, possibly due to the ginger but probably because of the fizzing. The tablets take about a minute to completely dissolve, but we like drinking it while its still fizzing.
My husband loves this stuff and gladly drinks a glass or two before going on business trips. It kept him healthy last week when he flew cross-country. In fact, a few days of taking this stuff once or twice a day kept him from catching what I had when I was last sick (about a month ago). Normally, I wouldve had to fight him to take the handful of pills this stuff is comparable to (I buy 500mg Vitamin C so he wouldve needed about 4 pills plus 2 Echinacea plus a couple of awful-tasting zinc lozenges).
Though I like it, Im a bit more reserved about Airborne. Its nice to consolidate those components into a palatable drink that you can have anywhere (who cant find a glass of water on the road?) and I do have faith (and experience) that those supplements help relieve some symptoms quicker. But the price is too much for, basically, a fizzing Vitamin C tablet. I only bought it because we were on the road and this was all I could find at a rest stop. It cost me $9.99 for 10 tablets! (Its about half that locally.) I took this stuff three times a day last time I was sick for several days and it helped a little. It probably wouldve helped more if I had taken it BEFORE my cold got full-blown, but it did seem to make my sore throat and cough go away sooner than the previous time.
