This is a perfect example of psychosomatic medicine. I remember an old Saturday Night Live skit with Steve Martin, claiming to have discovered the best narcotic in the world. He said (don't tell anyone) it's called a placebo. 150 years ago, quack doctors would travel the country in wagons with "medicines" that could cure anything from a cough to cancer. The main ingredient in those, of course, was alcohol. But people are always looking for an easy cure when there isn't one. So far, the only thing known to cure a virus is an antiviral like Flumadine. Just because something tickles your throat when it goes down does not mean it cures anything. Vicks Formula 44 used to burn going down, but that didn't mean it worked better than any other cough medicine. To give credence to Airborne because it was concocted by a school teacher with no medical backgroundit ludicrous. As is the case with all "miracle cures" there is always a group of people who swear by it. The best way to not get sick is to stay away from and teach your children to stay away from people who already are. Most diseases in this country are spread by parents who send their sick children to school to spread it to others and by people who go to work in highly contagious states. And when people says that even though they're still sneezing and coughing but they're not contagious, ask them if they'd like a drink from your toilet, because you flushed it once and now the water is clean. Airborne is a big money-maker and it gets great product placement at checkstands. But as for it curing colds, eating a healthy, balanced diet and being slightly underweight works just as well if not 100 times better.
