| techman232's Full Review: Airborne Effervescent Health Formula Dietary Suppl... |
I was coming down with a cold or flu, like so many other people, so I saw Airborne and remembered hearing something about it. I purchased it and took my first dose. Following the directions carefully I took another dose after 3 hours and another about 3 hours after that. The next day I do the same, 3 doses total. The third day (symptoms have not improved by this point) I begin to have terrible abdominal pains and diarrhea.
Went to the doctors because I assumed my cold/flu symptoms were getting worse, he begins questioning me on my diet. Mostly lighter stuff because I was ill but then I mention Airborne.
The doctor laughs and asks if I mean the dietary supplement. He explains that airborne is not a remedy of any kind, in fact, cannot legally call itself that because it is not approved by the FDA. He explains that each dose contains all and in some cases much more than your daily requirement of various vitamins and minerals.
The doctor continued that by taking too much airborne (basically more than 1 dose per day) you could be overdosing on:
Vitamin C: The main symptom of overdose is diarrhea, but it can cause other problems in very large amounts
Vitamin A: birth defects, liver abnormalities, reduced bone mineral density that may result in osteoporosis (see previous section), and central-nervous-system disorders. Toxic symptoms can also arise after consuming very-large amounts of preformed vitamin A over a short period of time. Signs of acute toxicity include nausea and vomiting, headache, dizziness, blurred vision, and muscular uncoordination
Manganese: The critical adverse effects are elevated blood magnesium concentration and neurotoxicity.
Magnesium: Signs of excess magnesium can be similar to magnesium deficiency and include changes in mental status, nausea, diarrhea, appetite loss, muscle weakness, difficulty breathing, extremely low blood pressure, and irregular heartbeat
Zinc: The critical adverse effect is the influence of excess zinc on copper metabolism. Other effects include epigastric pain, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, abdominal cramps, diarrhea, headaches, and immune response impairment
So the moral of the story is to prevent or limit a cold or flu, vitamins and minerals are good. But only up to a certain point, in the end you could become more ill or even die from overdosing. Unfortunately for me I got really bad diarrhea and stomach cramps, but some people report getting kidney stones!
