Pros: Excellent value for money, comfortable
Cons: Doesn't block out all external noise
The Bottom Line: There really is nothing else as good as the HP-CN5 at the price level; this headset represents remarkable value-for-money.

| matthewclement's Full Review: Aiwa HP-CN5 Headphones |
Frustrated with my experience at listening to CDs on planes, I bought a set of Aiwa HP-CN5 noise cancelling headphones. The principle is simple: a microphone on the outside of the each earpiece picks up the ambient noise, which is then inverted and fed to the corresponding speaker. This anti-noise, in theory, cancels out the ambient noise, so that one can enjoy blissful synthetic quiet.
And it works. Not perfectly, but well enough. I don't have to crank my CD player all the way up and give myself a headache, and when I take the headset off, I'm surprised by how noisy the cabin is.
The headphones are comfortable enough to wear for an entire transatlantic flight, and are nearly as good as the Bose noise-cancelling, but are only 10% of the cost!
