| scoblak's Full Review: Aiwa HP-CN5 Headphones |
I fly every week for work and am armed to the teeth with everything portable: carry-on luggage, magazine subscriptions, an amazon.com book wishlist, extra laptop batteries, MP3 CD player and of course, my Aiwa HP-CN5s.
I bought these for two reasons: they're cheap and they're ultra-portable... while they don't sound as good as studio monitor headphones, after the seat-belt sign is extinguished, they're the only game in town.
Previously I used to crank all my portable devices to 10 to hear what was up above the roar of the engines and hiss of the ventilation system, but soon realized "Hey, if I never use a volume setting greater than 4 on the ground for fear of hearing loss, why is this okay on the plane for hours on end?"
I can plainly recommend these to anybody that uses headsets on planes, your ears will thank you. On the ground, they won't wow you but you'll likely not need them anyway.
A word to the wise: throw away the pleather carrying case that comes with the unit, while the headphones are fold-able and compact, they'll snap like a twig in your carry-on luggage. Invest instead in a hard-sided case for your CDs and slip them in with your tunes to keep them company.
Go in with these expectations and you'll be happy with your purchase. We'd all like the Bose treatment, but they're much too nice to travel with, no?
