| darkucio's Full Review: Aiwa XP-R210 Personal CD Player |
I don't know how, many people who wrote here, bought this discman for under $100, as I have paid $150 for it. Must be because I am from a small part of Europe and we don't get such low prices, hehe...(I'm actually crying...no, just kitting...)
Anyway, this discman is well worth the money, as it really does offer sound quality most of all. As CD sound quality is concerned, of course, since Radio quality isn't all that good. Don't get me wrong, its sound quality is fairly decent, but you can hear some mild scratching and other sounds and it doesn't obviously posess a strong tracker, as it "caught" only 12 radio stations automatically. Automatically means that the discman picks by itself only the strongest radio signals. You can find many of the other radio stations manually, but the reception is just so bad, that it is just not worth it.
Actually, there are a couple of good things in the radio department.
It has a digital tuner, as you might have already concluded, which means that you don't have those ancient turning knobs for finding radio stations, but two buttons and the discman pretty much does all the rest for you.
And the storage capacity for radio stations is also very impressive, as it can store 30 radio stations-just too bad you won't find nearly as much really good radio stations.
As I already mentioned, the sound quality for CD is really good, and if you turn the EASS (Electronic Anti Shock System) to 12 seconds or OFF, you can actually increase the sound quality. And you can really hear the difference-no kitting!
As for the deep bass function goes, it is just fenomenal. With the DSL function you can have normal sound, emphasized bass or strongly emphasized bass which is in my opinion the best option for listening to really high-quality music on this discman.
The EASS function of this discman puts it among the top discmen on the market today, as it guarantees 48 seconds of anti-shock system, which only a few other discmen posess or surpass. And you can choose if you want to have 48 or 12 seconds of anti-shock or if you don't want to have anti-shock system turned on at all. You choose less than 48 seconds, only if you want to improve your sound quality in a comfortable area with no real stress or shock to the discman. But don't worry, it's not that fragile. Some people claim that they have dropped their Aiwa XP-R210, but I won't even try that on mine to see if they are telling the truth. But what you do with yours is up to you...
On to the batteries...
This is a very important aspect of every portable electronics equipment. And this discman again qualifies for the best of its kind. It can easily last for 20 hours of non-stop usage. You get two AA 1.5V Aiwa original rechargeable batteries, which can be recharged at least 300 times. But if you are listening to your discman at home, it is of course advisable to plug it in to electricity with your Aiwa adaptor as you will need those two rechargeable batteries for listening your discman somewhere outside, don't you think...
A big surpise of this discman are its original headphones. A lot of other discmen had very poor original headphones and many people rightfully labeled original discman headphones in general as bad. They really were of bad quality and looks. And also many of them were unpractical. But since, headphones aren't that expensive, many people didn't pay attention to this "detail". Not to worry about headphones on this discman. They deliver high-quality sound, look great and have a special sylicone material which enables the headphones to fit into any ear virtually without ever falling out. Trust me, you won't have to buy new headphones with this discman, as you will be very pleased with the original ones.
As for the design and looks of this discman, I must say that they are basically almost all the same-they are all somewhat rounded and thin, weigh about the same, but stil I find this one somehow very attractive to the eye. But that is just me...
Too bad for the radio, I would give it 5 stars without a second thought...
