| DrainOWHAT's Full Review: Aiwa XP-V516C Personal CD Player |
This is a fine quality item for the cost. I have owned this discman for about 6 months now and as I took the time to reflect back upon all of the joyous music it brought to my ears over the months, I found that I couldn't find a darn thing wrong with it. There really aren't many aspects to a discman, but the few that there are, are of the utmost importance. This player rocks in every category that I can come up with.
Ok, first of all the biggest thing....
The reason why I went to get a new discman in the first place was because my old discman, which was some big black prehistoric Sony thing, that was a total mess. I used to listen to it on the bus on the way to cross country meets, or TRY to listen, and the thing would skip literally every 4 seconds. It would take me 35 minutes to get through a 4 and half minute song. Finally one day, after many many miserable bus rides, I decided it was time to bash my old discman with a sledge hammer, and spring for a new one.
I didn't have too much to spend, but I also didn't want to wind up with another piece of garbage. As I browsed around I noticed a section with a few aiwa players in it. My stereo also happens to aiwa, (which I wrote a marvelous review on as well ) and I love my stereo so I figured going with aiwa was a safe bet.
After a long time of debating back and forth on how much to spend, I decided to go with the $79.95 Aiwa, Model No. XP-V516C. In hindsight, it was a fantastic choice and here is why...
First of all it was E.A.S.S - Electronic Anti Shock System for 10 or 40 seconds!!!! Now to someone who knows a lot about CD players, this is probably really important, but for my purposes all it means is, IT DOESN'T SKIP, EVER! I could jump off my house holding this thing and it wouldn't be phased a bit. Not only does it not skip, but it really sounds great.
Another nice feature is the DSL Bass amplifying option. Now it just so happens that I play bass in a band that my friends and I have, so I always listen carefully to songs to see if i can pick up the bass line. This option makes it so much easier. There are 2 levels of intensity for those of you nonbass players out there. So if you only wanna hear a little more bass, but not enough to have the tabs implanted in your cerebellum, then you can use the lower level of intensity.
This player also has lots of other smaller, yet significant and convenient, options. For example the RANDOM PLAY is one of my favorites... I hate when I know what song is coming on next, what a drag. This takes care of that problem easily enough. There is also a RESUME feature which will start your CD exactly where you left it last time you turned it off. Personally I see no use for this option, but if you like it, knock yourself out.
Another nice feature is the HOLD option. I use this all the time when I stick my discman in my gym bag. My old one use to start playing when i would put it in my locker, and when i would come back 3 hours later, the batteries were just about dead. Speaking of batteries, I find myself very rarely replacing them in this player, and it also has a digital battery display that tells you when you need to replace them.
Oh yes, and one other thing I neglected to mention.. the size. It is amazingly small. When you look at it, its hard to believe a CD would even fit in it. It fits in all of my pockets easily and is lightweight and all that good stuff.
Well that is about it I guess, I can't really think of anything else to say on the matter. This thing can basically do just about everything you could want a discman to do, aside from launching rocket ships. If you're looking for a solid discman that'll give you great sounding playback, LOUD bass, LOUD volume, and lots of other fancy features that you may even find a use for, then this discman has you're name written all over it. Hope you enjoyed this review, it has been a pleasure. Until next time.
