great (empty) vat of knowledge (Reply to this comment)
by sumo_rhino
Now here's something of which I'd like to gain knowledge.
But, most things fall under the category of Stuff I Wish I Knew More (If Anything) About.

On *every* book shelf? Really? (Reply to this comment)

I once had to sit a Russian employee of mine (yes, the same one who had the recent bad news) and explain to him that if he did, as he threatened to, bring a loaded AK-47 into the office, I would fire him (him, not it, of course) on the spot, no questions asked. He did need to learn the concept of safety, but in his case a firm 'No. Nyet. Never. Under no circumstances.' was the appropriate way of conveying the lesson. Trust me on this. (The stories I could tell. Shudder.)

Hmmmmm... (Reply to this comment)

I wanted to know if Duncan Long had done anything on semi-automatic handguns and discovered that he is, shall we say, a very interesting sort of person. The sort of person whose time, it seems, has actually come. One wonders if the character in the SciFi Channel show Tremors, Burt Gummar(the Eps filter won't let me spell this name with an "e"!), might be kinda loosely based on Long....

Now, y'see (Reply to this comment)

Here is the sort of book series for which one could set aside a whole shelf, presuming Long has written that many books. Something, perhaps, on the Colt six-shooter? There's some history I'd like to read.

AK-47 (Reply to this comment)
by artdeco73
It is refreshing, even if momentarily disconcerting, to see the AK-47 covered in these pages. Had I remained in my country of birth a year longer than I actually did, I would have been forced to learn how to use one. I was a little taken aback by a much greater than usual amount of emphasis in your review -- a subtle point of humor I missed, perhaps? In general, though, above par as always.
