I am new to allergy suffering. I wasn't even sure i had one until i did lots of research because i never had allergies in my life.
It was the weekend, so my dr. wasn't available & my eyes were so red & itchy that i thought i would rub them out of my head. So hubby drove me to Duane Reade in nyc to get something to help me.
After looking at the different things up for grab, i had decided to go for over the counter claritin (my daughter has allergies & that's what the dr. gave her, but prescription strength) since i had heard of it & saw for myself that it works. But they didn't have that so i settled for alavert. The packaging spoke highly of the product, so i figured why not. All i had was itchy/red eyes & a little stuffiness. I thought, surely it would work for me. It didn't.
I immediately took one (with something to drink) & eagerly waited for relief. It never came. I was afraid to take more than one in a 24 hour time period, so i simply suffered. I ended up following that with 2 Sudafed so that i could at least breathe again & Opcon-A from Bausch & Lomb for my eyes.
That was friday night. It is now sat & i'm itchy all over again. This time i thought, to hell with the directions..i'm dying over here! So i took 2 alavert & eureka! I feel A LITTLE better. I was still using Opcon-A, along with sudafed. The combo helped. My eyes stopped being itchy & red, i was able to see again! But that only lasted about 5-6 hours. Not 24 by any means. By nightfall, i was rubbing my eyes out again & suffering.
It is now sunday, & i am again on my cocktail of meds & as you can see, i'm typing this review. I expect it to all wear off by nightfall & i'll be up the creek again until monday when i see my dr. and get a REAL prescription.
Overall, unless you have the mildest of allergies, ALAVERT is not for you -This coming from a mild, first time sufferer. The package boasts of 24 hour relief, but you will get maybe 5 to 6 hours after taking TWO pills, instead of the recommended one pill dose. It did absolutely nothing for my nose, and very little for my eyes.
