I am not a lipstick girl. I have tried to use lipsticks in the past, and I always end up either looking like a strange doll, or a disaster with flaky lips from drying formulas or colors that oddly change as the day wears on. I am not a lipstick girl, but I absolutely love a good lip balm.
I love to play up my eyes, and so I am always on the hunt for a great lip balm to make my lips look full, soft, and natural.
The Product: Alba Botanica Coconut Cream Lip Balm
Product as Described on www.drugstore.com:
-Moistens & Protects
-100% Vegetarian Ingredients
-No Animal Testing
Ingredients
Cocos Nucifera Oil (Certified Organic) (coconut), Euphorbia Cerifera Wax (candelilla), Coconut Flavor, Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Tripalmitin, Copernicia Cerifera Wax (carnauba), Simmondsia Chinensis Seed Oil (Certified Organic) (jojoba), Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Ammonium Glycyrrhizate (licorice root extract), Allantoin, Triticum Vulgare Germ Oil (wheat), Prunus Armeniaca Kernel Oil (apricot), Tocopherol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Glycine Soja Oil (soybean)
Application:
This lip balm comes in a roll-up tube almost exactly like Chapstick. However, you will find that this is no chapstick! To apply, it is completely goof proof. With the very solid texture (no melted-all-day-in-the-car-feel here!) makes application a breeze because it goes exactly where you apply.
After applying it is easy to roll the product back into the tube with a slight twist. So far it has not been one of those annoying tubes that either gets stuck with the balm halfway up (so the cap smushes it) or one of the ones where you have to push it down with your finger because the turner doesn't work as it should (so annoying!).
The application especially gets my approval because it does not require any fingers to apply. Many rich lip balms come in those little makeup pots where you must dip a finger to apply. I am too much of a germ-a-phobe to be able to use those and so I was happy to find a rich balm that can just be applied straight from the tube.
There is no stinging or cool sensation when this is applied like so many lip balms have today. It is pleasant to me to apply it because I know my lips are not going to feel like a smashed a Tic Tac was smeared on them.
Flavor:
I really enjoy the flavor of this balm. It reminds me of summers spent at the beach. It tastes the way yummy Banana Boat Coconut scented sunscreen smells (without, of course, the bitter sunscreen taste!).
I don't like the taste of actual coconuts or candy containing coconuts, but I really like the subtle taste of this balm.
Long Lasting?
This formula goes on very smooth and it is not sticky at all and so it does not hold on to lips for as long as a stickier balm might. This does not bother me because I love to apply it (it feels so good going on!). I would say it lasts an average amount of time once applied, but is not long lasting. The sheen diminishes after about half an hour, but my lips stay soft and moisturized for much, much longer.
Color:
There is no color to this balm. It enhances the natural tone of your lips with a clean, clear sheen. It looks very natural, only a little more wet than lips would appear should you have licked them.
This balm would be perfect to use underneath a lip gloss or lip color to give it more moisture and prevent chapping and flaking of the lips.
I love how this balm makes my lips look rosy without adding any color. It just enhances my own lips shade into that of a shiny (yet without any glitter specks), perfect pout. The shine makes my lips look full without looking overdone.
Only One Downside:
The only complaint I have about this balm is that it does not contain any SPF. Most balms these days contain an SPF of at least 15. However, I have come to find that this makes a great balm to apply to lips before bed, and SPF is not needed at that time. So this is just a small complaint that does not take away from my love of the product.
Where to Buy:
Alba Botanica Coconut Cream Lip Balm can be purchased at www.drugstore.com for the price of $3.49 (as well as your local drugstore chain).
Final:
This is a simple, nice tasting balm that I enjoy applying as well as wearing. I have sensitive skin, and the gentle formula has given me absolutely no problems. My lips feel great long after I have applied. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a simple balm that gets the job done.
