It is amazing the amount of hair styling products out on the market. Whether it is the numerous different named brands or the numerous varieties within one type of hair styling products, you have a LOT of choices out there. What makes one better than another? That’s hard to say. But, one thing is for certain, you most certainly won’t know unless you try it. And, you might try one product but it’s not right. If that’s the case, try another hold, style or type and it might just be the product you absolutely love and adore and nothing ever will change. Sometimes, you have a product you have used for years that suddenly stops working or isn’t cutting it the way it used to do. But, you don’t have to worry about running out of products, trust me. Heck, some stores have aisles that are full of hundreds of hair styling products with so many choices that you could spend 1 – 2 hours reviewing all of the choices.

I like to try things from the sample bins, if you will. Either the companies offer samples or some stores have sample sizes. When I try something, I want a decent amount of the product to try to make a call whether or not it works for me. I first came across this TRESemme’ product that I am discussing now through a sample sized container!

The Product

TRESemme’ is made by Alberto-Culver USA Inc. which has offices in Melrose Park, IL. The products that I have seen made by this group under this name are normally packaged in either white or black plastic containers. This is not different as it has a black bottle with a pump sprayer and a small medium blue, almost purple, line near the bottom telling you the type of hold this hair spray offers.

My favorite, due to my fine hair, is usually a super hold. I have found that the lighter holds just wear out in the Iowa humidity in the summer leaving my fine hair limp and hanging in my face. I look like someone threw a bucket of water over my head and the hair is just plastered to my skull. So, I want super hold. I have found a lot of products that claim to be super hold just don’t cut it. I was pleasantly surprised by this product. I did not have to apply a lot of spray to my hair to hold a style. I like that very much.

The smell of the hair spray is strange though. It smells chemically and somewhat unappealing. The scent doesn’t linger really on your hair when you spray it, but try not to breathe in any when you are spraying it on your hair.

The hair spray doesn’t have a lot of give to it. When my hair is straight and I am trying to lay it back away from my eyes, and I spray this on my hair, if it is very windy, I have seen a whole layer of my hair flapping in the wind. It really seems to coat the hair and make it seem like all hairs are one “piece” of hair. I had to use this analogy, but it like a center toupee where a strong wind catches the hair, lifts it off the balding top and flaps it in the wind. I don’t know if I just use too much hair spray or if it just gives that much hold. I don’t think I spray a lot on my hair; just enough to keep it back but still have a natural look and feel to it.

I have had a couple of instances where I have used this hairspray and it was raining and I did not have an umbrella or a rain hat. My hair got wet and the spray seemed to dry kind of like glue on my hair. When I tried to comb it out after letting my hair dry, it seemed like I had glue in my hair or a tremendous lot of knots in my hair. That was not pretty. Washing it seems to be the only way to get things back to a manageable, comb-able condition. If you want strong hold, this hair spray will do it!

The Ingredients

SD Alcohol 40, water, ethyl ester o pvm/ma copolymer, amino methyl propanol, ascorbic acid, disopropyl adipate, triethyl citrate, dimethicone copolyol, fragrance.

This product contains a maximum of 55% VOC’s.

They do state on their bottles that this product has not been tested on animals! And, the bottle is plastic, and I don’t know about everywhere, but it is a recyclable item for me.

On the front of the bottle of hairspray, it does state that it has Vitamin C for shine. I don’t know about the amount of Vitamin C and whether or not spraying it on your hair does anything amazing for your hair, but I do know that my hair does shine, especially when I use this product. This is partially why I purchased more of the hair spray after using the trial size. That, and well, I like the hold for the super hold properties! I don’t try to get caught in the rain again without a hat or umbrella. So, hopefully, I won’t have the drowned rat appearance with my hair running down into my face and looking and feeling horrible with hard to comb through, nasty looking hair ever again!

Overall Impressions

While I sound like I don’t like this hair spray, I do. They claim in the ingredients list that they use fragrance in the spray. Personally, I think they could do better, as the scent isn’t attractive and smells a bit chemically. Fortunately, that doesn’t last on my hair though!

The hold is incredible, even for just a little amount of spray used! If you like hold, this might be a spray to check out! The cost is really decent too, as you can find many products from this line and they are all decently priced. They are a bit more expensive than the generic or store brands, but they are not the top end prices you will find either. They are on the lower-middle range!

Decent hold, decent price make for a decent product that I am not afraid to purchase again.
