| Dunkjam's Full Review: Aleve Pain Reliever |
My family suffers a lot from the discomfort of sinus headaches and occasional colds. We use to use Tylenol before they came out with a warning that it could cause toxic damage to your liver. My daughter, Heather, was the first one to introduce us to Aleve! I was visiting her in Ohio where she resides and I had left my prescription pain medication at home. I needed something for a tension headache and she offered me Aleve. At first, I did not want to try it because I thought it would be similar to Motrin, which really upsets my stomach! I have a history of stomach ulcers and I did not need to get them stirred up while I was visiting her. Heather reassured me that she had no problem taking them, so I gave Aleve a try. It worked!
When you take Aleve, they recommend that you take one caplet and if you need another one, you may take a second caplet within the same hour. After that, you must wait eight to twelve hours before the next dosage. You should never take any more than three caplets within a twenty-four hour period. It is also suggested that you drink one full glass of water with each dose.
My husband had a sinus headache the other night and I gave him two Aleve caplets, since he had such a throbbing headache. He said that his pain was gone within forty-five minutes of taking the medication. Aleve suggests that if you are over 65 years of age, that you should just take one caplet every twelve hours unless instructed otherwise by a physician. Do not give this medication to any child under the age of twelve unless the pediatrician tells you to do so.
Aleve is Naproxen Sodium 220mg. The active ingredients are Naproxen 200mg and Sodium 20mg. The inactive ingredients Magnesium Stearate, Microcrystalline Cellulose, Povidone, Talc, Opadry YS-4215.
Aleve may be used to treat headaches, minor aches and pains, muscular pain and arthritic pain, and toothache pain. It also can be used to reduce fever associated with the common cold.
As with any medication, if you are taking it for the first time, you must be alert for signs of allergic reactions. Aleve indicates that you do not take this medication if you have ever had hives, asthma, facial swelling, or shock! If you drink alcohol on a regular basis, you should check with your doctor before taking it because it can cause stomach bleeding. When taking this medication, if your symptoms do not subside, I would suggest seeing a physician if symptoms continue. There may be an underlying physical problem that needs to be treated. I would not use this medication during pregnancy or if breast-feeding, unless approved by your doctor. This medication can cause problems to your unborn child if you take it during the last trimester of your pregnancy and could cause delivery complications.
One thing that I really like about the Aleve bottle is that it has a unique childproof cap that must be pinched in on both sides before turning the lid to remove it. I like the oval shaped caplets because they are much easier to swallow. This medication comes in different amounts of caplets. I like to purchase the 24 count caplets because it fits in my pocketbook.
Another reason that I am glad I tried Aleve is that I have been on prescribed pain medication, which is more expensive, and does not work any better than Aleve!
