| poneyby's Full Review: Aleve Pain Reliever |
I have had headaches for the last 10 years. I used to get them several times a day. Sometimes they were so bad I had to go into Emergency and get a shot of demeral. I have been on several medications to try and help these headaches. I have tried beta blockers, antidepressants and several other prescription medications through the years. They were giving me Tylenol with codiene and that worked, but after awhile I would need more and more to help my headaches. This was dangerous for me so they took me off those.
Finally after trying so many drugs, I came upon a combination that has worked to at least manage these headaches. Aleve and Nyquil together have made my headache much better. I take one half of an Aleve pill(110 mg.) and half the normal dose of Nyquil(15 ml) each time I feel a headache coming on. Within about a half hour my headache is usually gone. I have tried this with asprin or plain tylenol and it does not work the same.
Aleve is made with Naproxen Sodium. Asprin is hard on my stomach and I have had ulcers. Aleve does not seem to add the acid that asprin does to your stomach although I have been told they are very much alike in how they work. Asprin also thins your blood and my doctor told me I shouldn't take asprin for that reason also. He said Aleve wouldn't thin my blood as bad as asprin. Aleve is also very good for temporary relief of other aches and pains. It also helps reduce a fever.
They suggest you only take 1 tablet every 8 hours unless a doctor tells you to take more. They say NOT to give this to children under 12 without doctor advice. Aleve costs more then most of the other pain relievers. I suggest you get the generic form. Name brand will cost you around 8 bucks for 100 pills. I get the generic brand for less then half that price. Just look for Naproxen Sodium in the generic section. I have seen no difference in the name brand and the generic brands.
If you do have headaches and struggle to find any help I suggest trying Aleve and Nyquil. I really do not have any idea why this combination has worked for me. My doctors don't know either they are just glad something works. Over the past 5 years my headaches have slowly gotten less and less frequent. Hopefully soon they will be gone for good.
