Pros:Nice uniform, set exclusive pieces, flesh tone!
Cons:Only available in one Batman Lego set so far.
The Bottom Line: If you're going to be the wingman for Batman, you better know how to fly.
Batman is one of the most well-known crime fighters around. There's a saying that "behind every good man there is a woman". In this case, behind Batman, there is Alfred. Sure, you can argue that Robin is his partner in crime fighting but its Alfred that keeps the cogs moving freely. This is an average crossover piece; it doesn’t suck but it could have been better. Appearing in only one Batman Lego set so far, Alfred was packaged in the "Penguin And Mr. Freeze Invasion" [Lego 7783] released in 2006. Priced close to a hundred dollars it was reserved for the hard-core collector. Additional figures include: Batman, The Penguin, Mr. Freeze, Bruce Wayne and Freeze's Henchman. The individual characters from the set vary in price depending on their grading and demand. Uniform: Alfred's torso piece is befitting of his role in the series. This can double as a tuxedo for other mini figures so there is a plethora of replay for it. The head peg is a set exclusive and has a lot of stenciled detail but to me Alfred looks a little Asian. The split-leg section is a basic gray piece; a little stenciled detail would have been awesome. Culled from the set Alfred has a few accessory pieces but if purchasing this individually chances are you won't get them with the mini figure. Pros And Cons: Flesh tone mini figures look more realistic but with Alfred the sleeves on the jacket look too short. A hat of some sort would have softened the look of the stud on the head. While a unique figure, to get Alfred to look perfect you'll need to do some modifications. Getting an authentic from-set figure might sound easy but there are a lot of knock off and customized characters sold and listed as true Lego creations. Price: An authentic from-set mini figure is going to cost about eight dollars. Because it only appears in one set there is a demand for it as well as the torso tuxedo element and unique head peg. Alfred doesn’t have a dual-sided face peg nor does he have any back-stenciling; two of the most commonly listed pieces of erroneous information about his Lego crossover piece. I'd put a buy limit of five dollars on this one; you can buy the head and torso separately and use stock pieces for the legs. You're getting two set exclusive elements in flesh tone; there's a good bit of detail to the tuxedo and most of it can be seen from a distance. The downside is that people aren't going to see this and instantly recognize that it's Alfred unless he's holding the serving tray [from the set] or in the Bat Cave. As mentioned, this is an average run-of-the-mill character figure. Stenciled detailing on the legs would have really helped improve the overall look. ^V^ ©Freak369 - 2011 ^V^
