I purchased the first of my Energizer Weatheready LED lanterns in January of 2011, as part of my family's earthquake preparation kit. The promise of 8 hours worth of light from a single set of D-cells made it a good choice for this duty, and I liked the feature set: Weather-tight design, LED light source from twin flourescent-like tubes, a carrying handle for use as a lantern, and a flip-up lamp enclosure for use as an area light. There's even a "night-light" feature!

I put it in my pre box and forgot about it for six months, when I dug it out to take on a family camping trip. I was so impressed with this lantern! It lit an entire RV galley. It lit our outdoor dining table. It served as a flashlight for late-night trips to the bathroom. And we left the night-light on all night, every night, so we wouldn't trip over something in the RV and go banging into the floor, waking everyone up.

I love it so much, in fact, that I purchased a second one for this year's trip. I put one on each end of our 10-foot picnic table, and with the bulbs up in 360-degree mode, we had light from dusk to midnight every nite for card playing, midnight snacks, whatever. And, with all this use, I have YET to change the original set of batteries in the first lantern!

It's not often a design this great comes along. I highly recommend this lantern to anyone for any use at all. (BTW, it was very much appreciated during last Fall's Southern California blackout -- it put out so much light on high-power mode that our son had no excuse for not getting his homework done, even with no power!)
