Pros:Large work surface, powerful motor, 5 year warranty.
Cons:The replacement bits are somewhat expensive, but they do last a long time.
The Bottom Line: A beginning stained glass hobbyist will be thrilled with any grinder but spend a little more and you get the ALL STAR G8 and have a quality product.
All Star G8 Stained Glass Grinder is a very acceptable grinder for the hobbyist, both beginner and advanced. This particular model is a step above the other grinders that Glastar offers. The All Star G8 has a work surface that is larger than other grinders so you can easily handle larger pieces of glass; the dimensions come to about 20% larger. The motor is more powerful as the speed is 1/9 horsepower with more than 3,500 revolutions per minute -- that will get the job done and it will do it quickly. All grinders have motor noise but this one seems quieter than others that I have tried. It includes a safety eye shield, although I would highly recommend wearing safety glasses -- your eyes aren't worth risking. Glastar has proved to me that it is a reputable company and stands behind its products. This grinder has a five year warranty with it -- it's hard to find warranties longer than that. There are many different size heads available for specialty work, although for most glass grinding the 3/4 inch bit works out just fine. All grinders do the job, but this one does it smoothly, quietly, and with a company that is accessible when you have problems.
