justinsdaddy's Full Review: Alpine CDA-7893 Car CD/ MP3 Player
Allow me to start by saying I have been around Cars, and Custom Stereo Systems for the past 15 years. I currently have a System in one car that can sustain 100db at 65% power, and hit a peak of 150db at 90% with no distortion.
I recently acquired a 1991 Corvette Convert. The fist obstacle in ANY convert is to get a head unit that will be visible with the top down. This unit was SUPERB! The second and most difficult obstacle was to have a unit that can be set via custom points that will sound clean in the car without losing quality.
Speakers, and Amps play a large role in that, but if the head unit is garbage the rest does not matter.
1. The programming comes with great ease via the very simple instructions and follow through menu on the display
2. The Diff Angle settings for the display make it VERY easy to read at a glance
3. The Controls are Simple enough that you dont have to use the manual at all to figure out how to jog through the diff CD options, and Sound Options
4. The REAL TIME CORRECTION allows the maximum sound efficiency for wherever you want to hear the sound
5. The installation is quite easy, but still best left to a pro if you are NOT wiring harness savvy
6. There are various display options for diff graphic effects
7. The Sub Woofer controls are a breeze to master
8. The complete Clarity of the sound both with an amp and without is astounding
9. XM Satellite Ready is a nice feature
10. Faders Fron to Rear are all Digital, as well as Right to Left, and VERY VERY easy to set via the head unit
11. The Multi and FULL Function Remote is awesome, and strong enough to work the unit from 10 feet outside the car and through the closed windows.
12 With RCA out puts for An AMP Front, Rear, and SUB this unit is very versatile.
13 The Highs are Awesome, Mids, and Tremendous, and Bass is Deep and Tight.
14. I would put this unit up against my Pioneer 9400 (At double the cost, in my other car) any day of the week. It is THAT GOOD!
15. The 50 Watt Amp is strong enough to drive most speakers, but like ANY head unit when you get into split components an AMP is awlays preferred.
16. There was VERY VERY little motor noise after installing the unit. In fact there was NONE when the amp was disconnected. So the back noice was from the AMP not the Alpine at all.
This unit gives a tremendous amount of Quality and Bells and Whistles for the Buck. It could easily sell for twice what it costs.
