| mtodde's Full Review: Alpine CDA-7893 Car CD/ MP3 Player |
After a few weeks of looking around, I chose the Alpine CDA 7893. I looked at the CDA 9805, Clarion & Blaupunkt, but decided the 7893 offered the most for the money (it was $280 on clearance @ Hi-Fi Buys vs. $350 @ Crutchfield). I have a 2002 Ford Mustang and had replaced the stock speakers with JBL Power Series P7525 (all 4 speakers). It sounded ok with the factory head unit, but that didn't really drive them. With the Alpine I can actually shake the car!
The unit looks good, although I would rather see all black rather than the aluminum. Too many car stereos have so many buttons that they are confusing. The Alpine look is classic; the face is clean and well laid out.
The features are great if you take the time to learn how to use them. The Media Expander works well on radio stations and older CDs that have not been remastered. The bottom line is that you have all kinds of options for customizing the sound to fit your car, speakers and ears.
