| pughce's Full Review: Alpine CHAS-634 6-Disc CD Changer |
I purchased this about 6 months ago and wanted to spend a bit of time with it before writing a review. I spent a good deal of time researching my alternatives and various price combinations. I ended up spending about $480 for the CD changer, the FM Modulator and installation. Circuit City matched the lowest price I could find and promptly and competently installed the system.
First a few minor behaviors:
1. It only likes ISO9660 format MP3 discs - not a big deal - just means that the filenames will be truncated to 8 characters.
2. It displays the ID3 tag information for the MP3 file which is very nice, so even with the reduced filename you still can see what song it is
3. The only complaint I have is over the FM Modulator - it is a real hassle to navigate to different folders within a CD - you have to use the remote to do it, and the folder numbering system is a bit weird so you almost have to start listening to the song within the folder to find out where you are. Hopefully when I get an Alpine head unit it will solve this irritation.
No other complaints. It sounds great and is very reliable. I haven't had to listen to annoying DJs since I got it.
