| lovdbyGod7's Full Review: Alpo Chew Eez |
You’ll have to bear with me here, ladies and gents, I’m kinda new at the “Pets” category, but will certainly do my best!
Background
My family has two dogs, both Boston Terriers. One (Trixie) is two, and the other (Pudge) is eight. Both are very, very spoiled and live the good life. Both love rawhides! We also had three German Shepherds before we moved up here to Kansas City, and, though they liked rawhides, anything short of two—foot long ones would be gone before the day was out. The dominant dog, Delta, would always go and grab the toys from Dixie and Belle then lay on them while she chewed hers so that they couldn’t play with theirs.
Teeth and Teething
These chews are excellent for dental care. We have never brushed our dogs’ teeth (yeah, I know—bad master!)—we have always relied on these rawhides to do the trick. My grandparents love to buy them for our two dogs so there’s always a steady stock of them at our house—along with stuffed animals (Trixie likes to tear out the eyes, nose, mouth, and ears—she’s a strange dog).
Anyone who has raised a dog from puppyhood will know that they go through a teething and chewing phase, which accompanies their puppy energy phase perfectly. In short, you’re likely to find anything from your shoes to your brand new couch as the subject of repeated “attacks” by young puppy teeth. We found that a steady supply of stuffed animals, plastic hair-spray lids (their favorite) and, of course, Alpo Chew Eez kept their teeth occupied and away from our furniture and belongings.
And what dog doesn’t like to play? What dog wants to sleep all day? There have to be little bursts of activity, and these “Chew eez” are great for just those times. Whether throwing the chew up in the air and trying to catch it or laying on a blanket chewing, these rawhides give a dog something to do when they don’t feel like sleeping.
Now, a Story
Pudge has always loved to get a chew and hide it, then come back for another. Since she was a puppy, we’d watch as we gave her a chewie. Sometimes she’d chew it, but most of the time she’d take it in her mouth, and saunter from room to room looking for an excellent hiding place. Once she even hid one in my grandfather’s boot (when we were over at his house). It complemented very well the time she dialed my aunt and uncle long-distance by knocking the phone off the hook and punching the speed-dial. Then there was her 911 call—nevermind that. Let’s just say he had a nice (and still wet) surprise the next morning when he went to put his shoes on.
Other times she’ll hide them in plain view (perhaps in a corner). She holds the chew in her mouth and starts pawing at the ground, mimicking digging. After the “hole” is “deep” enough, she inserts the rawhide. Then she steps back and starts pushing air (dirt) into the “hole.” It’s probably the funniest thing she does.
Overall
So what are Chew Eez good for?
~Divert puppies attention away from furniture
~Good dental health
~Gives them something to do
~Can be very humorous to watch
Forgive me for this puerile attempt at writing in an unfamiliar category.
