| susiewho's Full Review: Alpo Prime Cuts Canned Dog Food |
We are the proud parents of two Chihuahuas. One fear aggressive 5 pounder rescued from an animal shelter, Max. Max was on death row because of his "issues" and being animal rescue people we just couldn't leave him. It took him 4 years before he wagged his tail in happiness and he is on medication for his issues but I love him and he loves me. The other is Buddy, an overweight chunk of love. He looks like a large loaf of bread on toothpicks. He is mellow and friendly and is hubbies dog. I get the crazies, Hubby gets the love muffins.
We are very diet conscious when it comes to the dogs. They ar both foodies so taste, consistency, smell isn't really an issue when we buy them food. You add years to your dogs life by making sure she/he is nutritionally sound. We check the nutrition value since we have Buddy/el Gordo on a diet. Something I wish all dog/cat food and snack would do is give calories content and suggested calorie intake for specific size animals.
We do look for a good price and we seem to find Alpo Prime Cuts Canned Dog Food the best price. It also offers healthy ingredients:
It contains water, meat by-products, chicken, beef, soy flour, poultry by-products, chicory, sodium, mineral supplements (and there is a whole host of them: zinc, potassium, copper, and manganese), salt, guar gum, natural flavor, caramel color, vitamins (choline, vitamin e, a b12, D3) supplements (niacin, calcium, riboflavin, folic acid and biotin), and iron. It's 8.0 crude protein minimal and 4.0 crude fat.
We use dry food and just mix a little of the Alpo Prime Cuts Canned Dog Food in so the guys eat their kibble. We try to keep most of the food dry so as to avoid tartar. The dry food cleans as it crunches and the wet food tends to stay on the teeth. We also brush their teeth regularly with chicken flavored toothpaste for dogs. Both dogs have excellent breath on this diet. Buddy, the chunky one has lost 2 1/2 lbs. He's down from 10 1/2 lbs to 8 lbs and we're hoping to get him a bit leaner yet. Alpo Prime Cuts Canned Dog Food has a good protein to fat ratio so we're quite happy with it as part of his diet.
The label suggests a canned to dry ratio of 1/3 can to 1/4 C. dry food for a 4 lb dog. We don't follow this recipe, as I said we just use the Alpo Prime Cuts Canned Dog Food to make the dry food more desirable. Amounts of food also should be decided upon depending on your dog's activity level.
We're happy with Alpo Prime Cuts Canned Dog Food and often find it on sale. We vary the flavors to keep the boys on their toes.
If you plan on switching your dogs food to Alpo Prime Cuts Canned Dog Food its recommended you gradually mix Alpo Prime Cuts Canned Dog Food into the food they are used to until you've replaced it in order to avoid upset stomach.
Just another thought there are now breeders who advocate raw diet for dogs. Chicken, bones and all. I'm not ready to chance that though.
