| JDinPA's Full Review: Alpo Prime Cuts Canned Dog Food |
My KoKo is really enjoying all the reviews I write on epinions! What is it this week? Why it is Alpo Prime Cuts in gravy with turkey and bacon~!!! Woof Woof ^..^
Isn't it funny how much pet foods try to make their flavor choices appeal to us pet owners. We all want our furry friends to enjoy their food, and pet foods are marketed to make us feel good.
Now I know that when I shop for KoKo, I look over all the flavors and types of food (dry, moist, hi-protein, etc) and buy what I think would taste the best. The Prime Cuts I picked out from the big variety available was Turkey and bacon with gravy. Sounded good to me, not that I'd eat it or anything, but I feel good giving my pup turkey and bacon in nice big chunky bites of meat that resembles a stew beef, and all nice and covered in brown gravy. Mmmm. And a few seconds in the microwave and now Koko gets a warm meal for his tummy. Mmmmmmm
Now, of course I need to diverge a bit from the Alpo at hand and wander off the doggy dinner trail.
I know KoKo. I know that he will eat whatever lies before him. His mission in life besides trying to round up the cats, ducks or geese on a daily basis is to eat. He is a eating machine that has not stopped growing since the day he came to live with us. He can see you holding that treat for him from 200 feet away.
So what is all this getting to? Well, I'll tell you. To be honest, KoKo would just as happily munch down on some disgusting hunk of hairy unidentifiable dead thing, or check out the litter boxes for some tidbit treat as he would eat the Prime Cuts I've so kindly warmed up for him. A dog will eat the most repulsive slimey, dirty, old and rotten things that it's nose will lead him to. That is the truth. That is life. Buying good quality foods and treats, and giving him things like Alpo Prime Cuts is my way of "taming" that dog side and giving him a full tummy and thus no excuse to go out and find such yucky things to gnaw on.
Ya still with me? lol
Alpo Prime Cuts does look like stew beef with gravy. It is canned, and if you do want to warm up in the microwave please do remove it from the can first! I do like how the first main ingredients (after water for processing) are turkey, beef, and poultry. So many foods contain all sorts of meals and glutens before any resemblence of meat enters the picture.
After the 3 main meats you will find wheat gluten, wheat flour, meat by-products, corn starch, whole chicory root, bacon, salt, and the list continues with various vitamins and minerals. The food is for both puppies and dogs, providing a 100% nutritionally balanced meal that is for both growth and maintenance. Since this is a canned food, moisture content is high (compared to dry foods) at 82%. Crude protein is at 8%, crude fat at 3% and crude fiber at 1.5%.
This food (and others are following suit) contains whole Chicory Root. The addition of this root helps to improve the bacteria levels in your dogs digestive system. Good bacteria levels promote healthy digestion. Feeding this or other foods with Chicory should within a 4-week time frame have the good bacteria levels up to their optimum level.
If you haven't tried Prime Cuts before, buy a can the next time you are looking for Fido food. This is a canned food that looks like real meat chunks ~ this is not another ground up and pureed food that slurpy sucks it's way out of the can. Your dog will be quite impressed! lol ^..^
If you would like more information on Alpo and their product line you can call toll-free to 1-800-551-7392, or visit them on their website at www.ALPO.com. Their website contains information on pet nutrition and behavior as well as their pet foods.
Enjoy and love your dog or puppy - give them a well balanced nutritious diet, plenty of water, exercise and lots and lots of love! ^..^ Woof~ KoKo agrees!
