I bought these speakers on sale, and I thought I was getting a good value. My last set were the pair of Creative Inspire 2.1 2100, which I migrated to my turntable + mixers setup.
My gripes are that the left and right speakers are attached by a thin cord, and the right speaker connects to the subwoofer by one big fat cord, which makes transport (from bedroom to living-room, for example) very difficult.
However, my biggest criticism by far is that the subwoofer has no bass control and is far too strong, while treble response is far too weak. A) I live in an apartment complex and I hate bothering my neighbors. B) I like my music bass-heavy, but I like my highs to be crisp and clear also. I have an eclectic music collection, and these speakers perform poorly under any circumstances: electronica, hip-hop, classical, rock, and more. C) I'm a hobbyist-producer, and the tracks that I produce demand the perfect balance of bass, mid-range, and treble levels for the music to play properly on a variety of systems. I'm not wealthy enough to buy "real" studio monitors, but my Creative speakers worked very well. With these, my tracks end up too light on bass (because when I hear them on the speakers, they sound like cannonballs dropping). I find myself having to mix everything on a pair of headphones.
The only thing that has kept these speakers out of the trash is the fact that iTunes has a very serviceable equalizer which I can use to cut most of the bass frequencies so my music is actually pleasant. Unfortunately, this EQ does not apply to the rest of the system, so music production, etc. is out. I'd likely only pay up to $10 for these speakers to use them occassionally with my turntables when playing a small gig that required heavy bass.
