Pros: nice and compact, very cheap, great sound for the dollar
Cons: not expandable
The Bottom Line: i recommend this set for laptop and desktop users, mp3 and minidisc portable players, and anything else with a headphone out.

i use a very nice sony vaio laptop in my dorm at cal poly, san luis obispo. in other words, it's tiny in here. i'd say that my stock speakers with a compact subwoofer does sound good for the small output it has. however, i needed something much more massive, while keeping my wallet in check.
so i bought these speakers for 40 bucks at my campus bookstore thinking that they'd be average. i think i'm pretty wrong, as i do get complaints about the volume. and i'm only bumpin' at about 75-80% of my max volume. not too bad for 50 watts. what's great is that is plugs nicely into the headphone out of my laptop, which means you can plug it into almost anything with a headphone out (might sound a lil different), as opposed to the dual plugs.
the right speaker also has a headphone out, meaning you don't need to unplug and replug the speakers. this may not be a huge thing for a laptop, but some of our desktops can be very cluttered in the back.
sound quality is great, period. i'm not talking for just an inexpensive speaker set, but for all speakers. bass is very clean for such a small input, and it does a good job of making sure ALL sound is well represented, not just bass. for my mostly hip hop and rock playlist, bass is great, but words are nice to have as well! i'd recomend this set to anyone looking for a nice extra boost in their computer's generally average sound system.
