| radioheaded123's Full Review: Altec Lansing 621 2 Speakers |
Altec Lansing is a good name in computer speakers. Up until today, I have been using my old Altecs which came with my very first computer, which I used almost 8 years ago, and they still run fine.
But after going over friends' houses and envying their powerful systems, I decided it was time I went shopping for a new set.
So I venture out to the local Circuit City, and plop down my hard-earned cash for some Altec Lansing 621s (the top of the line model right now) without even having a test run. I come home, and eagerly open up the box.
Setup was a breeze. If you know how your existing speakers plug in, then you're fine. You don't need any additional hardware. Just the soundcard your PC came with. So I boot up the computer, and I start Winamp, my mp3 player. Since my parents weren't home at the time, I crank it, and I'm amazed that the speakers can hold such crystal clear sound at such high volumes. These pack a whopping 183 watts of power, and peak out at 200.
They're sturdily built, and they look good. I would say that was money well spent.
The remote is a good size, and rests well in the palm of your hand. The entire system looks like it could last for a good 10 years.
The only downside to this is the size of the satellites and the woofer. The Subwoofer is almost the size of your computer tower, and the satellites are a whopping 5.25" across. So if you have the desk space and you know that the neighbors won't complain, I highly recommend that you go buy these.
