This 641 system was designed as a Gillette razor!, Disposable When Done! It shaves you excellent until the razor goes dull, then it stops working and you have to throw it out!!! What kind of CRAP is this? The sub can't be repaired under normal circumstances! I have 3 set of this system and 2 subs are gone! No Sound! But, the dam Satellite works fine. Ain't that some crap! I took it to my tech, a repair man of 30yrs in the business and even he went crazy with amazement as to how he couldn't get into the Dam Box to service it! I then took it home. Finally, It took me 4hrs to take it apart carefully from the back, took it back to my tech, and 1 ˝ month later the man is unable to repair it cause he needs the service manual. I called Altec Comp. for the dam service manual and was told that the set was discontinued altogether and no service manual was available at all. In addition, they can't service it at any price. They would just replace it with a different model of a lesser power! What kind of slingshot bullcrap money robbing scheme is this!?, A well developed sounding product that must be disposed of when blown (stop working)? Unbelievable! My next step is to reformat the setting In the back design with a friend of mine who is a carpenter works men. Once we redesign the back (without compromising the stability craftsmanship of the enclosure), this will allow for the dam thing to be fully serviced. The woofer themselves are ok. What seems to go out is the crossover which is what my tech can't get to due to it sitting flat inside the sealed cabinet. For this reason, I am trying to carefully cut the back with my carpenter in a very professional way, reassemble the interior in a chassis format that may be pulled out and pushed back in when service is done for future references. Once I do this, and perfect it, then I will advertise the repair of this dam sub just cause I feel sorry to see how Altec has abuse us all with no remorse! I am set on beating the odds of this. The tech man over at Altec suggested that I call him if I am successful due to the fact that I would be the 1st man on Planet Earth to ever service this sub successfully as he quoted. Hahaha!!! Go figure! I will fix the dam subs, but you can rest assured that I will never buy an Altec Product again as long as I live nor will my friends and family members. What an experience this has been especially with a so called reputable company such as Altec! I guess they will get it once they see product sales drop due to the significant poor customer service given. I have a 48 track recording studio in which I used these 3 system thinking it would be a wise investment only to run into this huge disappointment. I should start a classaction suit and make an official report to the better business bureau. You know what, I think I would do just that!!! Will keep you posted!
