Decent speakers, could be better for the price

I received these speakers back in April with my Dell computer system. Included is 2 mains, 2 satellites, and a ported subwoofer. I opted to purchase the more expensive speakers because I figured I would be doing a lot of gaming and watching DVDs. They are Dolby Digital speakers, and the DVD decoder card had a digital input, so I thought they would be the perfect speakers. After hooking them up to see how they sound, I was a little disappointed. Although the system did have great bass and nice sounding highs, the rear satellites didn't produce much sound at all, even when the volume is turned up. The remote offers the ability to change the amount of surround fill, but this did little to my problems. One thing that impressed me was the subwoofer that was included. It produces rich bass on all types of music, and it's quite a change from having no subwoofer in a computer system.
These Altec Lansing speakers are a little pricey, and there are better for the money. Since I have gotten these, I have decided to run a cable from my A/V receiver to my computer, running the stereo system through my home theatre system. You may want to consider this if the opportunity is there or the Klipsch ProMedias if you have the cash (approx. $250).
All in all, this system does a nice job, but it must be known that there are bigger and better fish in the sea.
