| Poophed's Full Review: Altec Lansing ADA 880 4 Speakers |
I bought a Dell system in July of 1999. These speakers (Altec Lansing ADA880) were the best they had. I play games a lot (notably Counter-strike), and I thought that having nice, expensive speakers would enhance my playing experience.
It has been over a year now, and I think that these speakers cost more than what they are worth.
It is a four speaker setup, with a big fat subwoofer (I like the sub). The detachable satellites, which you can either put on individual bases or stick them on top of the main ones, aren't worth anything. I can hardly get ANY sound out of them. I just leave it on the main ones all the time. Even with the satellites on the main speakers, it doesn't sound like there is any sound coming out of it.
There are four buttons (from left to right - Power, Dolby Digital, Bass, Treble, and a knob for volume) on the right front speaker.
The remote control is a pretty unique thing, though utterly useless considering the speakers are on the desk, and I'm sitting in front of the desk.
The subwoofer includes a S/PDIF jack, in case you want to know.
Well, I'll just say that these speakers (I've seen these for about $90 on Pricewatch) aren't worth whatever it cost before (retails for $300 I think). I think that the ones Dell offer now could be better, but I'd would much rather go with Klipsch's v.2-400 or Videologic's Sirocco Crossfire for speakers. For now, I'll stick with these speakers until they blow out or something bad happens to them. But, if given the chance to choose my speakers again, I would definitely NOT choose these.
